6-speed shift **** rotation
I've had my '03 2500 since last October, and my shift **** has taken to slowly rotating. It's been thru one complete rotation and is just starting it's second - moving clockwise. Funny thing is, I can't turn it myself either direction, and I don't know if it's just the leather **** or the entire shaft that's moving. Is anybody else having this problem? If so, how do I make it stop?

Thats MR Hoss to you buddy!
Re:6-speed shift **** rotation
Haven't seen it on this one yet, but did have the same thing happen on the Chevy S-10 I drove in college. Doesn't hurt anything....unless you are one of the ones that have to look at the little diagram to figure out what gear you're going into. Then you could have issues... ;D

It's my pot and I'll stir it if I want to. If you're not careful, I'll stir your's as well!
Re:6-speed shift **** rotation
Mine used to do it but I fixed it. It is not the **** itself rotating. It is locked in place with a locknut under the plastic thingy that shows the shift patterns. It is an easy fix. Using a small screwdriver or similar tool, gently work it under the plastic thingy and pop it out. Place one SMALL drop of adhesive in ONE place on the plastic, line it up properly and pop it back in place. Don't go overboard with the glue in case it is necessary to remove the **** later.
Problem solved and no TSB required.

Mine's upside down right now. Not sure how many rev's its been. I wouldn't worry about it, and keep your eyes on the road.

Re:6-speed shift **** rotation
carryover problem from 02. I'm on my third shift **** -- its the **** itself. When my 02 was new, the **** rotated 90 degrees in the first 3 months. I took it too the dealer and they replaced the ****. the new **** worked great -- stayed put and all of that, until recently when it has started to move again.
tell them you depend on the shift diagram ;D. But seriously, get the dealer to take care of this under warranty.

HHMMMMM, the case of the shifty shift ****. Now you have disturbed my sleep. I will have to come out tonight and sneek up on it and see if it is playing around. ;D ;D

Looks to me like a good case for the old Loctite... ;D ;D ;D
Pretty amazin' what $1 and a little common sense will do - and sure beats some Dodge "service trainee" and high-school dropout messin' with yer truck... ;D ;D ;D
And if it's the **** coming loose from the threaded insert, apply some Crazy Glue between the insert and **** - let it set up, then reinstall... Ya hafta ask yourself, what's easier, spend a few cents and a couple of minutes to fix it yourself - or make an appointment, fill out the paperwork, drive the truck in to drop it off and hitch a ride to work - then come back later to pick it up - or else wait an hour for it....
I'll leave the heavier-duty stuff I don't have the tools or training for to the "experts" - but the SIMPLE stuff I'll do myself...

Re:6-speed shift **** rotation
heh heh heh. yea I'm with you on that Gary, but another part of me wants to hold DC responsible for even the little things. ;D The dealer actually tried the locktite thing first w/o success. then they changed the whole ****. I was even putting little pieces of tape with index marks on them to prove what actually was rotating.
Anyway I figure if they want to change parts until they get on that won't turn, that's ok with me :-). looks like if I go the 04 route I'll be re-visiting the shift **** thing!

Re:6-speed shift **** rotation
In my case MEXSTAN is right. Not the ****, but the plastic insert that marks the shift pattern. It has rotated 90 degress in 10,000 miles. So at 40K it will be straight again.
Personally, I wouldn't waste my time and loose the truck for a day to have the shift pattern relocated to the correct position. :

Re:6-speed shift **** rotation
With MY luck, about the time the shift pattern got sideways or upside down, would be the day my wife decides to take the truck for a drive... ;D ;D ;D
Backing it outta our tight fitting garage would be REAL exciting...
