Question 6.7 Mega or 5.9 Mega????

Well Guys, my rep from DC finally got ahold of me with the news that they are going to replace my lemon truck.
I am going to definately get a 2500 Mega this time but I cannot determine which engine to go with.
I know the 5.9 is a proven motor, but its mated to a not so good automatic tranny (for what I read in here).
The 6.7 is new, not very proven, but is mated to a better tranny. Also it costs more than the 5.9.

Will you guys let me know what you guys would go with and reasons? I can find quite a few mega 5.9s still in my area if I decide to go that route.

Any help would be appreciated...

My signature says it all !

Really, the new 68RFE w/exhaust brake should be awesome.

Mine's on a rail car outside Gardendale, TX as we speak.

You pretty much summed it up in a nutshell....proven engine / decent tranny or unproven engine with a crap load of emissions junk / darn good Aisin 6 speed auto tranny.

If it were me, I'd stick with the 5.9. If you are thinking at all about buying a stick, then it's defintely no contest whatsoever....stick with the 5.9.

Test drive 'em both and see if the 6 speed auto is really the bees knees.

Just bought an 07 with the 5.9 and a 6spd manual on Monday. I love it! It has just over 300 miles on it and the over head console is already reads 19.1 mpg average. Not sure how accurate it is...will find out on first fill up.

If you want the auto go for the 6.7 if you want a stick get the 5.9 I think they detune the HP/TQ on the g56 equipped 6.7's. I get the feeling from this forum the 6.7 is going to be a good engine.

After driving and popping the hood on a 6.7, I will never buy one. Unless you like stock power and an auto that's like shift shift shift shift shift shift shift shift.................. I'm trying to find an 07 5.9 mega laramie as we speak. Not an easy task either.

A Little Update for You Guys.....
I am currently on the downhill of this replacement. If any of you has to go through this, you better be patient, because this takes time. All the people that are currently working on this is working as fast as possible for me and has been very nice.....
I found the truck to replace my old one. I only had to drive an hour away, which is much less than I hear some of you driving to get your trucks, but I am fixing to be a proud owner of a.......
07 Mega Cab 5.9 CTD SLT
with a bunch of options and a few dealer options like a billit grille, chrome steps, and the premium Activgate System...
I can wait!!!! Shouldnt be 2 much longer...

Sorry 6.7 guys. I chose the 5.9 due to the rep of the motor. Pretty soon the 6.7 will have a good rep (when they work the bugs out). I just dont want to go through this again....

I felt the same way. I wanted to get a 5.9 Mega before they were hard to find, but I found a new 06 with HUGE rebates and A plan pricing. I bought a fuely for less than the cost of a gasser.
