Unhappy 5th gear rag questions

just recently i was driving down the road and i decided to show off in front of the high school while all the kids were at lunch. rollin about 40ish in 5th gear i put it to the floor. rolled some coal and then the turbo lit. as soon as it did the shifter slapped back into netural. so i pressed the clutch and put it back in 5th. once i started pulling again it did the same thing. so i figured out if i put it into 5th and roll into it with my hand keeping the shifter still, it will hold. 1st - 4th work fine its just 5th hates boost and will not hold unless i keep it in gear with my hand. any ideas??? thanks for your help.

Sounds like normal wear on a high mileage trans. Everything wore a little. Maybe time for an overhaul on the Getrag.

A worn tranny will hop out of gear both slowing down as well as under power. Its a sign its tired.

May be the trucks subtle way of saying don't be a tool in front of a high school, but probably a worn shift fork, or possible worn motor and tranny mounts leading to excessive torqueing when the turbo lights
