5K upgrade budget...

I have a stock 96 CTD 4X4 with 2857516s. I'm wanting ( might need anyway ) another trans.. I'd like to have a proformance upgrade also. With a 5K budget can I get some ideas on what the best bang for the buck I can get for 5K..? ATS trans., TV VB etc look real good. Don't have an idea about the proformance upgrade. Appreciate the any insight.

With 5K you can get TOP of the line ATS or DTT tranny built and installed.
I'm a stick kinda guy but others will chime in I'm syre.

And with either setup you can hold all future BOMBS.

If I were a slush box thats the route I would take.

But like I said I'm a stick kinda guy. ;D

Re:5K upgrade budget...

Almost forgot that full setup is around 4K I think.

And that leaves a grand to start the Bombing.
And on a 12 valve that will take you pretty far.
Just check my sig. ;D

Re:5K upgrade budget...

Bulthis - I appreciate the input on the ATS trans.. As you see I live in SC and as far as I know there aren't any ATS dealers around here. When I ATS what should I ask for - a complete trans. or would I want separate components...? Would I have to take the truck to the nearest dealer or could any good trans. shop install for me..? Is there any certain thing I should ask ATS to have the best setup possible for future BOMBINGS on the engine. I noticed you have a 40 lb. Scotty II - was the largest increase in HP for the engine or was it a combination of things that brought it to 389+ HP and 960 torq.....? With that kind of torque to looks like the rear axle would be screaming and wanting to give up - any problems there..? Sorry for all the questions.. Thanks.....

Re:5K upgrade budget...

With that price I think that is the complete tranny setup.
Just tell them what you are doing and they can guide you.
But remember that the bombing bug bites really hard ;D
so try to anticipate future bombs.
Because WILL want more.
The 40 lbs. of boost is easily gotten but since the dyno #'s I have made a hybrid out of my turbo.
Havent dynoed again but I know my #'s are up again. ;D
The Scotty II is the air filter setup.
It works as advertised and reduced my EGT's alot.
If your going to start bombing GET GAUGES FIRST.
I can't stress that enough.
It's a combination of things but my plate helped prob. the most.
I work my truck hauling equip alot.
It's hooked to a gooseneck daily.
The rearend is ok but I don't try to trash it all the time either.
Now the clutches are a different a story [ 3 so far ;D ]

Any way I hope I answerwed your question.

Good Luck and Happy Bombing ;D

Give me a shout or PM if I can be of any help.

Re:5K upgrade budget...

The ATS trany you are considering 9is a very nice up-grade ,the whole thing ,trany w/VB, triple locl TC,and commander control unit is arround 3800.00. Shipping will be another 200-300 and installation runs 600-700. the whole package works very nice as a unite. Really makes the truck feel lighter. The Pac-Brake would be a great addition to your truck as well, and they are in the 700.00 range. Then just add a TST plate for 200 more and you will have a brand new (feeling) truck. I know I sept a little more then your 5K budget, but we are close, at roughly 5300.00. You'll love the feel of the "new" truck, and it's new power. And if you have never had a E-Brake before, you will wonder how you managed without it.

ATS or DTT trans would be the first thing I'd do. Make sure you get the whole set up, not just bit's and pieces. That'll pretty much eat up your budget, but it will be well worth it. Then with the extra $1K, buy a set of gauges if you don't already have them (boost, EGT, Trans temp), and then buy a new torque plate and your done.

Thats good advice but there's a little more to it than just that.

But it's a good start.
