Hey guys I need some help, I just bought a 5500 quad cab-just waiting for the order to come in (6 long weeks). Its going to be used to pull a 4 car trailer (5th wheel) Just wondering what to put on the chasis, idealy a dually pick up bed would be best but im not sure where to go for that (Im from Toronto, Canada by the way). The dealers here insist that it cant be done (idiots).

Option 2, install the fifth wheel on the chassis, add mud flaps and drive it like a tractor bob tailing?

Anyway, any input would greatly be appreciated...

If it were me I'd go with a flatbed as well. I prefer aluminum; they cost more but are much lighter.

I just bought a 3500 cab and chassis and have had a CM flatbed with four storage boxes under the bed installed. They appear well built and are very affordable compared to other brands. CM is located in Madill, OK and has dealers all over the southern US and possibly the midwest. They have a good website and if you call CM they will tell you where the closest dealer is located.

I've seen a lot of trucks doing what you plan to do that had just a 1/2" steel plate bolted to the frame rails with a fifth wheel hitch attached, half round fenders over the rear wheels, and mudflaps and were good to go.

as for locating a dually bed, look for a shop that builds custom utility bobies, a lot of folks bring in an already purchased truck to get a body and the conversion shop ends up with them. As for not being able to be done, sounds like they don't want to try very hard.

thanxs for the input guys I think for now I'm going to just bolt a 1/2" piece of sheet metal, half fenders and some mud flaps just to get the ball rolling and make some coin. When the truck becomes more common (especially in Canada) I'll change it again.

I wouldn't think that you would need 1/2", I would go with 3/16 - 1/4" should be plenty, just my .02.

I saw a new 5500 pulling a 6-car trailer the other evening. No bed, just fenders, toolbox, and the hitch but a very impressive rig.

If you are coming into the US of A, I would not bother with the bed. A bed will classify you as a straight truck... pulling a 53 foot trailer. [dummy]

wow. 6 cars, impressive. plus the weight of the trailer.

I've got the the J&I NS bed on my cab chassis. I like the looks but i've had problem with wiring for the lights.

We install stock dually beds on them, making them look stock. We are located in southern california, a little far from you for sure.

Hey Guys I finally got everything straightened out - Heres the JDJ 4car trailer, and the 5500. I decided to go the most cost effective way -- 2 stainless fenders and mudflap arms from Kenworth dealer and a 'Reese' 30K fifth wheel. i just financed my 1st diesel, an 08 5500 QC 4x4 SLT.

what u get for mileage with trailer empty, and full?

any mods gonna help me with fuel?

do you still regen towing 4 cars and running those high egts?

milage isn't bad (mind you i have a very light foot) empty 10-13L/100km and loaded 22-27L/100km. not exactly sure what that equals in miles/g...
