From what I remember reading over the years...the average life span on front pads is 20,000 to 30,000 miles?

Been waiting for mine (Wagner-Therma Quiet Pads) to do a warning squeal for 20,000 miles. Finally they died...at 54,000 miles. That's with an honest 50% city...50% hwy. And no brake dust ever on the wheels...and no brake noise!

Have not seen any postings lately. Is this a good as I think??

Rears still going strong at 70,000 miles (same brand).

Replaced the fronts with more of the same Wagners. Not the cheapest, but....maybe they are...cost per mile!

What ever you do don't use life time brake pads. They will wear out your $200 rotors.

Mine have been on for 40 K since I bought the truck, don't know if they were replaced before I bought it or what.

My original pads are at a little over 47,000 miles, no squeal yet.

And, I probably should add, no horrible grinding noises that indicate bare metal eating the rotors, either.

Mine seem to squeal at 34k, sometimes.

But, it was an elderly couple that had the truck before me. Probably rode the brakes

I usually get about 20k out of the cheap pads. I finally stopped being cheap and bought the expensive ones. Let's see how long they last.

In front of me on the way to work, probably. I work 10 am to 7 pm, so my morning commute offers traffic problems almost exactly the opposite of a rush hour. More like a creep hour.

Wish I could get 54k on mine.First set went at 33k,ate laft front rotor a little.Second set died at 45k,right side this time.Pads seem fine now at 60k,but rotors are warped and I'll have to fix it all soon.Most all miles have been with 2200 lb slide-in camper.I drive all over the Rocky Mtns. and I dont drive slow,so I guess I'm paying for that now!

I usually get about 40-50k out of a set but since switching to the larger GM 1 ton size rear cylinders am at 70k on the present set.
Having the rears work better sure helps the front.

I use Hawk Performance brake pads, the best match for our rotors. Hawk mainly makes pads for heavy equipment but fortunately have a size that fits our trucks among there limited automotive offerings. Price is competitive.

I got 50k out of my stock fronts, but when I changed them, it was getting close to being too late. I had alot of brakedust just from my driving style and hundreds of quarter mile runs and other races.

I got 80,000 out of mine...but I also got 95,000 and counting on the tires so go figure.....

I know I do a fair amount of highway driving and tow little but much of it is in the mountains here. I got 120k out of my front pads and they were definitely toast. My rear pads are now at just over 150k and still going. I am thinking of replacing them just for the hell of it but they appear to have at least 30% left on them.

I was so impressed with the life that I was actually going to go to the dealer and buy pads from them assumming that I would get the same ones but found out from them that is not the case. You do not get the same pads from the dealer that are the origianl equip when built new.

My new front ones with about 30k on them now are starting to squeak quite a bit need to take a look at them and see how they are lasting, maybe they are just dusting more.

Interesting. The pads that came on mine (front) lasted just under 30,000 ?????

Thanks for all the replys. Appears I'm doing ok, especially for a automatic with high idle speed (DTT)...but nothing spectacular.

I had the same experience as BarryG. Got like 42K out of the OEM's, thought I would just get new ones from the dealer. Not the best idea IMO.

I've 63,000 on the original pads. They look to have about 60-70% of life left in them.
