"53" block again...sorry
so heres the question....i know that the 53 blk can be seen as far back as 98 and even a few in the 12v'ers and they are known to be seen as late as 2002..and i have also read and seen ratios as high as 8 to 1 (53 to non) so do you all that have the knowledge what is the thought on this....
if the known problem years were at the peak durring 2000 and 2001 would it be safe to say that in 98 and 99 the ratio was less....meaning that i might be better off going that way.....
what do you think

there are alot of people affraid of cracking the 53. i have ran mine with these mods for along time and have had no problems. it isnt the power it is the heat cycles and how long it takes for heat to get to that area of the block.i dont understand the question but lock n stitch has a product that helps stop the crack i have it and it seems to be fiine so far pm me for more info.

i am totally there with you about the heat issue...most cases are from people not allowing their trucks to warm up properly...or long enough...the issue seems to a thin waterjacket, when you allow the engine to warm up it give time to the thermostat to open properly and allow the heat exchage to happen....as well it seems to occur more often in 53 blocks that have to worry about cold weather ie NE and then again in extream heat SW...for us in the CA it doesnt seem to be a problem...i also understand that the issue seems to be a problem if the engine is used to pull, tow, heavy load situations....this doesnt seem to be the case...studies are now showing this...they are finding out more often than not it is due to the heat exchange issues.....
my question is...would it be safe to say, the years 98,99 are less likely to have these engines than 00,01 because it is KNOWN that 01 is the height of production of these blocks.
i guess the more i know (now after doing my research) i am less worried if i get one. because i now know what steps i can do to "help" prevent it. but if i were to go out and look for a truck and i WANTED at 24v (i know kill me) the i would want to look at the year range when i am LESS likely to find a 53
make any more sense?????

thanks, i have already read that and others and that is why i am asking for the confrimation on my "theory"....i know of people who have serious BOMBED trucks locally...600hp and 1050lbs + trucks all they do is wrench on them...they say if you can stay away from them, but they are ok here in ca if you treat them properly...let them warm up, watch they temps and check the fluids in the radiator.
i am just wondering if it is a good theory or not that years 98 and 99 24v trucks are less likely to have a 53 block than say a 00,01,02 because in those years they were pumped out by cummins hard. they say it is a 8-1 ratio so if in 00-01 it is 8-1 then i wonder if in 98-99 it is a 4-1 or 2-1 thats all...of course i am gonna check the block no matter which year i purchase...and now finding out that it shouldnt be AS BAD of a problem here in cali it might not sway me out of the purchase, but i still wanted the opinion of you all being that most ALL of you know more then me...
