5 speed transmission noise
My transmission started making a grinding noise the other day. It only makes the noise under hard aceleration. I have only noticed it in 2nd 3rd and 4th. Again it only does it under hard acceleration. If I drive it easy through the gears it makes no noise at all. I have a suspission that the transfer case is trying to engage the 4 wheel drive. I drove it to a transmission shop today (which they think it is in the transmission) on the way I engaged the 4 wheel drive and drove it hard for a short distance and it did not make any noise.
I'm planning on crawling under it this weekend to look for any thing abviouse. fluid level transfer case linkage . Is there any thing else I should be looking for? Or any other Ideas as to the couse of the noise?

Sounds like you broke the c clip in the transfer case. I have been through this it was only 1600 dollars to fix the tcase. If only I had known about this cheap mod.click here
Actually re reading your post I can guarantee that the c clip is broken.

Thanks for the replies. That snap ring definatley sounds like something to look into. So in order to check that all I need to do is pull off the tail shaft housing correct?

Clayten thank you for the information. I pulled the tailshaft housing off today and the snap ring had broke and was laying in the bottom of the tailshaft housing. I will call that company you put the link to tomarow and get the kit orderd. I think this was cought before any major damage was done. And the trans shop I went to was covinced it was in the transmission or pilot bushing. So again thank you for the information.
