I went to pull someone out of the snow and 4wd worked fine then tried putting it in later that day and no 4wd I can see the front drive shaft spinning but thats it. Help would be greatly appreciated.

The posi-lok engagement kit. I've got one on mine because my vacum actuator went out. It gets rid of the entire vacum system and is engaged by a cable. We've got about that much snow here in parts of Indiana and it hasn't left me stranded yet. Trust me, you won't regret getting one. If you want some information on it I can find a link to their site, but the price at 4wheel parts is better and with free shipping. You just can't find it on their site.

Most likely vacuum related. do a search for no 4x4, and it will come up with alot of info.

Several factors can lead to no 4wd

but in ur case sounds more like a vaccum problem, since u see ur front drive shaft spinning. ill start at the top, if you have changed your FF recently, you might want to go back and check all of teh vac lines, and make sure that they are properly connected, (zip tie them and they will stay) You might also want to look for oily, dirty, or faulty connections down by the transfer case. WIth the truck on you can pull the plug from the vaccum actuator as well, one of the lines in two wheel drive should be sucking in air to keep the collar from sliding over, and when teh truck is tossed into 4wd, the inverse happens and the other plug starts to blow some air to send the collar into 4wd. Im not sure how much pressure is needed, I dont recall. If that all seems well, you should check ur actuator itself, no big deal to remove, 4 7/16 bolts and it comes right off. That mechanisim can be oily, or rusted to the point that it doesnt work anymore, thus causing it to fail.. But i had the same problem that you did in the past, my solution was so very simple..

As they said check your vacuum hoses by the actuator on front axle and also check the vacuum connector by the transfer case, it's on the left side, right below transmission/T.case at frame crossmember.
