4WD indicator light blinks

Driving home tonight in icy conditions I noticed that my indicator light would flash off every so often for anywhere from a blink of an eye to a few seconds then come back on again. It did not feel like the 4wd was disengaging, but it kinda bothers me anyway. I put a vacuum control on the axle when I bought the truck, and it has always worked fine. I just want to be sure when it is in 4wd that it really is in.

Do you think that I just have a bad ground somewhere that is causing the light to flicker? If so, anyone have any idea where the grounds for this would be? Thanks!

Try reading this:

There should be a few more posts. Try a search if you want to see more.

Thanks for that. I couldn't think of what terms to use in a search. Only came up with a few posts for that.

Mine only flickers when 4wd is engaged. Does that sound more like the switch then? And if the switch is bad does that mean that it is coming out of 4wd when it flickers off? If it's just the idiot light I won't worry near as much.

My guess is the the connector to the switch is dirty and just needs to be cleaned.

Wondered about that. I have a little problem with some external lubrication. Changed the fluid and put some stop leak in last weekend when it was warm. I'll have to clean it up once its back over freezing again.

I agree on this one

Perhaps a bad ground could also cause this..
