I have a question to those who have installed a shift kit or modified valve body into there 48RE.
I installed one this weekend in my truck! I seems to be working Awsome. Now my question is now that I have it installed my truck Smokes more out of the Exhaust. is this because more power is being transfered to the wheels therefore more load is being placed upon the engine? What are thoughts on this!!

Should be i wouldnt worry about it.

Yes the increase in smoke is caused from the additional load placed on the engine. now go out and have some fun!

shambo, please feel us in on what kind of differences your seeing with the transgo kit, I have one that will be here on thursday and cant wait to get it in and try it out.

A shift kit will do a couple of things, 1) it will increase presures, making shifting firmer 2) it will change shift points. What it wont do is make your tranny stronger. You need to get a new tourque converter and valve body for that, and if you do any amount of racing you should have a full built race tranny (billet inputs and outputs etc) Also you should pay attention to your flex plate (ask 973604x4)

I understand how by upgrading the converter your upgrading to a stronger part but how is an aftermarket valve body stronger than the factory? Does it not primarily to the same things a shift kit does?

If the valve body is properly done it will be upgraded to both provide more pressure, and to be able to handle more pressure (servo's etc) Im not a full out tranny tech but I know the basics

Hey Shambo, I've installed a shift kit on a 1966 torqueflite 727 and it was a major PITA. I had to take apart the valve body, swap parts, drill channels and grind parts down, and I had a couple of the little steel ***** fall out so I had to find them and try to figure out where they went. Is this similar to the 48re kit? Can you please give a brief rundown of the process? Thanks!

It will be very similar desertram. The 48re is basically a 727 updated with electronics and a overdrive on the tailshaft

ok I was just wondering if there was something i wasnt aware of. i was planning on installing the DTT billet servo and accumulator with the SK48Re kit. Funny thing is they are worth 2x what the kit is.

Im hoping to get mine done soon after I get back from the concrete show in vegas at the end of the month. That is if I dont lose/spend to much down there.
