These are temps I experienced this weekend on my 2006 CTD SWB 4x4 with 15k miles, towing a 10k FW. Everything stock except airbags. Ambient temp 90 plus. Also half the time pulling up hills.
Around town: trans out = 177-185; trans in = 155-160. This would very depending on how heavy the traffic was stop and go; etc..

Uphill hills: trans out = 189-196; trans in = 175-177. This was going with flow of traffic. never experienced any steep hills that traffic was creeping along.
When I got home ambient temp was 94 degrs.. and made a few short pulls around the block for better parking situation and noticed the trans out temp was 200 degrs and trans in was 185 degrs. Always about a 25 degrs.. or so delta between out and in.
Also noticed when backing up the temp would go to approx. 202 degrs.. I posted last week to the 48RE Guru's for trans temps info; but only got one result from a fellow that had a 2004. Thought I would get more replys??? Do these temps seem to be normal to you folks ??? THANKS !!

I don't know what you mean by "trans in" and "trans out" but the temperature range you've listed is normal.

Yep, predictable and normal.

Now, assuming you had the trans in probe in the cooler return line, move it to the pan and try the same thing again noting temps.

As part of th etest find a steep secondary road and tow the same weight up it 20-25 mph with the TC unlocked and watch the gauges.

That oughta get the conversation going, or not. The boo birds will probably hide.

My temps come off the factory ecm via the edge/att ,pulling a 14600 fiver 175to 190 moving with highway speeds,long 6-7 % grades 210-220 ,85 out,the scarey one was pulling in stop and go traffic,climbed to 250,cooled off immed as i got rolling.

Your temps are not unusual.

My '06 with a camper in the bed, 3200lb brick, climbing a 4 mile 7% grade in 90F temps, at 65mph I hit 190F (hot cooler line). Once I got to level ground, it dropped to 175. 70-80F ambient temps give me about 160-170F on freeway drives, loaded or empty.

Stop & go traffic will range about what you posted.

mmk, but the only line that would really matter is the line coming out? the line coming in has the fluid thats being cooled by the tranny cooler. i have my accu-temp on my supply line(out), rather than my return line(in). i usually never see over 190.

same here. Gauge never goes over 190*. My outlook monitor has the cooled temp and it is usually about half the hot temp
