48RE fluid capacity

Need some help. I purchased a PML +2qt deep trans pan.
I want to drain the fluid, replace the filter and add new ATF+4 fluid.
If I drain the pan and remove the filter, how many qts should I plan
on adding ? (I know I need a extra 2+ qts for the new PML pan)
Also, can the factory trans pan gasket be reused ?
Need to order a new gasket or use Permatex ?
Tanks

I just put the regular Mag Hytec on my 48re. THe OE gasket is designed to be reused. In fact, that information is printed on the stock tranny pan. Service manual calls for 4 qts for drain, filter change and refill. Don't believe it for a minute. It's more like 6 1/2 qts. So plan for 7qts + 2 extra=9. Might as well just buy a case of fluid and change the transfer case while you're at it. That's what I did. The transfer case fluid looked much worse than the tranny fluid did after 25k. BTW, the service manual also calls for 2 qts drain and refill for the manual shift transfer case. It's more like 2 1/2 qts. Enjoy, it's an easy job.

P.S. Remember not to over-torque the pan bolts and drain and refill plugs.

Thanks for the help. What is the torque required by DC for the pan ?
criss cross pattern I assume ?. My dealer sells Mopar ATF+4 for $17 a gallon
so I need 2 gallons and 1 qt. I appreciate this info.
Thank you

Torque specs for tranny pan are 125 in lbs. My dealer only sold the ATF+4 by the quart. By the way, I like to get extra fluid. Better to have and not need than need and not have, especially since this is your first time changing the fluid. The extra fluid you don't use will save until the next time. I had to drive my truck home from the Auto Crafts Shop on post with the transmission a quart low.

Again, recommend you do the T-Case while you're under there.

Thanks
The dealer replace the transfer case fluid at 4K miles. Leaky output shaft seals
so I think I'm OK with that for a while. Yeah should prolly get 3 gallons
and save the rest. 125 in-lbs/12=10.4 ft-lbs. Is that right ?

The math seems right, but when I got my Mag Hytec pan it called for the bolts to be torqued between 13-16ft pounds.

I got out 6.5 quarts when doing a pan drop/filter change. The easiest way is to start with an empty oil collection pan, and pour the old oil into gallon or quart containers - makes it really easy to see how much you drained. I highly suggest dumping in 1 quart less than you expect to be your full capacity, then start the truck and run thru each gear, and check the fluid with the truck running in neutral. You do NOT want to overfill the fluid.

Lightman is right, but I would add to wait until the fluid is at operating temperature before adding more fluid, as you're supposed to check the level hot.

I just put a Hughes deep pan (4 extra quarts, 1 inch deeper than stock) and it took 10 quarts to refill.
