47RH Tranny Problems

47RH Tranny Problems
Recently my truck has been doing the following:
1) locking and unlocking the TC constantly.
2) it will not shift into 3rd at WOT, I was WOT for about 10 seconds in 2nd with it at 2500rpms and I finally just gave up and let out.
3) when its cold it stalls shifting into 3rd then when it finally does it's very harsh, almost like shifting into 3rd with the converter locked up.
Now I noticed tonight on the highway it was locking and unlocking the converter and then I let it sit for about 3 hours and when I drove it home it did not come out of lockup in OD. So i'm thinking maybe its a temperature related problem, I haven't checked my trans fluid yet but maybe it needs changed? Anyone who has had similar problems please chime in, thanks.

First off, I would reccomend changing your fluid, and filter, and cleaning your TPS. When I changed my fluid, and filter it helped my tranny a lot. I havent had to clean my TPS, but it may help you out. As for not wanting to shift at WOT... Well; mine was like that before the governor spring kit. Put the 3k in, and it shifts great at WOT now. Before it would hang up in 3rd, and not shift to 4th unless you held into it for a while or let out. Shifts good now. Those are my reccomendations.

It mite be the transmission temp sensor in the trans hot fluid out line on the drivers side
I just when thru a bout of bad sensors from dodge ( 4 of them ) until I now got a good one
The trans temp sensor will lock and unlock the converter and it will take the trans out of O/D......I've had 3 of these sensor go out on me while traveling so I now carry a 7.5K resistor to by-pass it a new sensor costs about 42.00 retail from the dealer and it has a one year warranty

I've always used a 1k, works like a charm. Think you had better switch the resistor you carry before you find out it won't help you.

I thought that the shifts were governor pressure and throttle pressure acting on spool valves and springs? Could the problem be a sealing rings problem? I would have to do some reading, but can not the transmission be tested by a pressure gauge to see what is going on. I would have to read up on the subject to remember which port does what and what to expect.
Bill probably can tell you but I would have to call Dave Goerend or who ever you think best. Good luck on what ever you do Jim

Well here's an update, I changed my trans fluid and filter and it fixed problem 3, but 1 and 2 still exist. I've noticed that when the trans fluid is cool it won't do the lock unlock shuffle but when it's warm it will. So, from what I've read on here 3 things can cause this problem, tps, trans temp sensor, and brake switch. Since it usually only does it when the fluid temp is warm doesn't it sound like I need to change the trans temp sensor?

Jump across the temp sensor leads, sensor disconnected with a 1000 ohm resistor. If things return to normal replace the temp sensor and/or look for damaged wiring.
