47RE Problem

I recently got a new(03) 2500 Quad cab. Today, when accelerating hard, the tranny downshifted to like first. It revved to 3700-4000 before I let off. I assume this is not normal....After that, it seemed to be shifting a bit hard. What's up with this....anyone had similar probs? Also, when starting from a dead stop with the wheels turned, I get a pronounced shudder when I hit the throttle. Is this a problem, or just inherent with these? I drive a Freightliner with a Cummins, but a different animal altogether. Have no reference.

Re:47RE Problem

I have never had mine rev up like that. Mine does shift very hard into overdrive under a moderate load at 45mph and rattles the whole truck. I will have mine looked at soon.

Re:47RE Problem

Mine's done it a couple of times but only under hard acceleration from a slow speed. It seems to only do it when it's raining too.. I tell you what, if mine starts acting really crazy, I'm gonna try my best to blow it up so I can get a 48RE replacement!!

I have had no kind of shutter or anything like that yet. The two things I don't like about the trans are that it won't shift into OD under full throttle acceleration(until I let off the pedal some), and while sitting in this crappy DC traffic everyday it tends to fish for the right gear alot. Other than that it works fine.

When you say "with the wheels turned" do you mean all the way? If so, than you are probably just feeling the tight anti spin differential working. That's normal...

Congrats on the new truck. This is the 4th one I've owned...

Re:47RE Problem

I just bought a 2003 3500 with the 47re trans and it does shift hard into overdrive, but I will find out when I pull my 5er next month to PA. There is a TSB out for the 47re transmission to reflash the computer. I think the web site is Ram Technical Index, look there.

Re:47RE Problem

Thanks for the replies...Talked to dealer today, he said will check on it when I bring it in for a repacement rear slider that is leaking. My power steering pump is also being changed since it seems to be a little noisy....At least they are just replacing stuff rather than doing a half assed fix!
