47RE O/D lockout
Alright, this may be a stupid questions, but I'm curious and don't know! If I'm driving around with the O/D locked out and the TC locked up, then hit the button to put it into O/D the TC unlocks and jumps the RPMs up, and I lose acceleration. When you hit the button, is it supposed to keep the TC locked up and shift into O/D or is it doing what it's supposed to do?
Thanks everyone

What if you're already up to speed when you hit the button? I'm trying to compare it to my dad's Allison tranny, and wondering why his will stay in lock-up when he hits the button to put the tranny back into OD. I know I know, there's really no comparison, but just curious

It will still unlock. with a lock up switch it will stay, my new trans has a billet input and I leave it locked when taking the O/D switch in or out, shifts fine not harsh at all.

do you have a lockup switch too? i want to find a way to leave my TC locked up when i hit the button to put it into O/D. i like to leave my O/D locked out so i can shift it myself, because my tranny shifts at 3000 RPM

Mine will unlock, shift into O/D and relock. Real quick like. I don't lose any forward acceleration and RPM doesn't run up (this is all before this weekend). BTW, do the Mystery Switch modification. I just did this weekend and all I can say is....."WOW, why didn't I do that sooner?".

The way I did mine was to run a wire down to the trans or to the ecm on the passenger side firewall find the orange wire with black tracer tap it and run a wire on the other side of the switch to ground. The guy who built my trans gave me a 33 ohm resistor to solder into the ground wire that way you do not have to remove the relay in the engine compartment. This works with out a problem.
There is a thread on here I believe that tells you how to wire a 12 volt relay so that every time you start the truck the O/D is locked out and you have to engage it yourself. I like this idea and did it as were I live there is not much use for fourth gear all the time it used to hunt back and forth between lockup. It is one less thing to forget to do. I will try to find it and post.

This is exactly how I did mine, except I also added a LED as a reminder. One wire of the LED went to 12v ignition source and the other conenected to the same switch post as the wire going to the ECM.

So here's what I'm getting so far... tap into the orange w/ black tracer wire on either the ECM or on the transmission, run it up to a switch in the cab, then ground the switch, remove the relay or solder in a 33 ohm resister? How does putting that resistor in line of the ground wire keep you from removing the trans relay? I'm liking the idea of running an LED light from the switch, too

33 ohm seems kinda small, TB1 are you sure it wasn't more like 33k ohms? Just speculating here, but I'm assuming you're trying to put in a resistor that has such a large resistance it creates a near open circuit. Or am I off base on that one?

NO power wire! All you're trying to accomplish is a ground circuit. The orange w/ black tracer wire is a ground wire. The ECM grounds it to control the lock/unlock of the troque converter. By tapping it and added the switch which grounds, you can control it manually.

Guess I better watch my word choice! I didn't mean to say "power wire" Alright, I think I have it down now, and it doesn't sound too tough to wire up. I'm going to talk to my tranny builder about adjusting my shift points, then put on the switch pretty soon. I love how the truck pulls when the TC is locked up, so this switch should be a good addition
