47RE to NV5600 Conversion

We own a '98.5 24v CTD RAM that has about 93,000 miles on it. The overdrive no longer functions at all and we can only find 1st by manually shifting down from PARK. I've been wondering about when the 47RE would give up the ghost for years, and it seems that the day has now arrived.

So we've been researching transmissions fixes for a while, and here's what we've got:
- New ATS "towing" transmission = $6,267.00 (includes labor)
- Rebuild our 47RE = $3,000.00 (includes labor)
- Convert 47RE to NV5600 = $5K (labor and shop keeps our parts)
I've always had a problem with the 47RE overdrive design, so I'm seriously considering the NV5600. Put another way, I don't like listening to our '98.5 drone on and on when we tow with it, so I'm all for reducing the RPM while towing.

I've read about the NV5600 on the forums and it seems that there are two camps here: the lovers and the haters. I'd love to hear from the 2nd generation owners out there about their personal experiences with the New Venture 6-speed. I'd be particularly interested in hearing from '98.5 owners -- especially those that converted from a 47RE. Please keep in mind that our CTD has nothing more than RV275s on the inside.

Thanks for your time...
