400 miles with the Smarty got some ?s

OK ran 400 miles on level 1 and 3. 200 miles on level 1 and 200 miles on level 3. However i have what i describe as a motorboat ticking sound under hard accel (over 2k rpm) on both levels.

anyone know what this is? i know it was not there before the smarty.

also trans shifted alot softer, is this because of the decrease in tq mgmt?

thanks guys.

kinda sounds like the extra timing. try #2 and see if it goes away. if its the ratte is more than you feel comfortable with, I think the software for aftermarket injectors has less timing than the one you're running.

that is what i was thinking. i obviously dont want to in any way damage the truck.

also when running down the highway if i punch the go go pedal a little bit i can unleash a pretty decent puff of black smoke, it clears when the turbo spools up, is this normal also?

does it hurt the injectors or is it good for them to dump all that fuel thru em?

Almost everyone with a near stock truck runs the odd levels with the timming.....it gives better power and mileage.....you wont like the even numbers as much powerwise...we have the same truck, and i've had mine on level 3 since new....

The smoke is normal at low boost, rapid throttle scenarios....good for tailgaters....wont do it at higher boost levels (10psi plus).....i know you dont have guages from the other posts...so you cant see boost levels....but take it on the freeway, let off the gas and coast for a second and then give it a throttle blip...you'll get smoke.....if you have consistant throttle / load you wont get the smoke....

Pressure is the thing to worry about with injectors...the smarty version you are running is timming and duration only.....so no worries for the injectors....the new versions comming out (currently beta 4.4) have added pressure, but it's supposed to be minimial so not really a concern....a few with rail pressure guages are reporting it's within the safe limits....

You need to enjoy...there are a boat load of smarty users on this board, tdr,....and very few problems....Marco knows what he's doin. Leave it on level 3, get guages, and don't run around full throttle all the time and you'll be fine...

If you can hear it with the radio on 19....your truck is going to blow up in the next 5 minutes....might as well put it on level 9 with wild tq mgmt and have a good time....

Sounds like injector rattle from the timing. The last version SMARTY program that I ran did have quiet a bit of rattling, almost like the earlier 24v engines. But with the beta version it's pretty much gone, except for WOT runs.

I was trying to give serious help prior to this post, but bwtween your two posts, it appears you dont really want it.....Dodgezilla said get a egt guage, you saidi i dont need it becasue we have a chevy that didnt need it.....and dont dodges defuel like chevys.....

You're concerned about the rattle, it's normal.....to ensure it's not something else, people recommended you re download and install the latest version (becasue the verision posted on the web has been downloaded 100s of times and works....vs. a slight chance you got a wierd version shipped to you....corrupted??) as well someone mentioned to try the aftermarket injector version (less timming).....niether of which you've done and now you've progressed to putting the smarty back to stock...

If you dont want help / answers, don't ask....if you do, then listen to people...otherwise we're all just wasting our time.

Also, Beta 4.4 is awesome, but it's TBD on the actual release date.....so you could be waiting a while...the current version of smarty has worked for a boat load of people on 06 trucks just like yours w/o issue....if you put it back to stock and your truck is operating fine, then the smarty isnt going to hurt it any on level 3....if the timming knock is to disconcerning to you, try the aftermarket injector version....it'll have significantly less rattle.....but in my opinion, it isnt worth it....i like the standard version in terms of mileage and perfromance.....

Also, search on "Rattle and Smarty" and different combinations thereof....this has been covererd before....concensus is that this is not a concern.

Thanks was that so hard? you need to drink a beer and calm down. some of you on here take this stuff way too serisouly! i was only putting it back to stock to make sure the rattle is not there, i will go back to level 3.

as far as the egt gauge how many times do i need to say im gonna get it(NEVER SAID I WAS NOT GOING TO IF YOU READ OTHER POSTS), im just not gonna take off work monday morning to get it installed as you guys make it sound like the truck is going to blow up by not having one!
