4" lift clear 4.5" bs rims & 35's??????

Hey there..... heres my situation, bought tires and wheels with 4.5 backspacing and put in Lorenz coils and some shocks, so the nose is in the air like a trucks nose should be. I wish i would have come here to research the wheels a little more but none the less this is where im at. Does anyone out there have a 4 - 4.5" lift with this exact setup???????? Tires are 35/12.5/18 toyo m/t. I have used the search function the last couple of days and just cant come across the exact situation as mine. And if they will clear what is a better lift out there. I really enjoy the real life salesman on here as opposed to the guys standing on the other side of the counter staring at a guys wallet..................

thanks in advance for any input

menzy,

Fabtech makes a 4.5" and Pro Comp makes a 5" system. I think both will clear your wheel and tire setup.

I highly doubt it.The problem is the 4.5" backspacing on the wheels.Either get a bigger lift or get some different wheels with more backspacing.

The problem with the bigger lift is the 35's might seem small then.

As Pauly stated a slightly bigger than 4" would be the way to go.

yup. i couldn't get my toyo 35x12.50x17's to clear the rear fender well with 3 1/2" lift, with my ex wheels (4.53" bs and neg offset). i've heard of people with more lift than me having the same rubbing issue in the fender well. got wheels with 5" bs and +6mm offset and the tires fit fine.

Hey chipmonk:
when you say the rear fender well you mean the rear of the front fender???? correct. I cant go more lift as i have a 5th wheel camper and will not lift the camper. When you say it wouldnt clear do you mean when off roading or under normal highway/gravelroad driving, a small amount of rub I could deal with. I really like the way the truck looks with those wheels.

thanks

yup, the rear of the front fender opening. it rubs as you turn the wheel, due to increased turning radius of the wheel, i believe. i liked the way my old wheels looked with the new 35" toyo m/t's as well, but it just wouldn't work. if you do a thread search, you will find lots of other people have gone through the exact same thing as you- inc. me. wheels with correct bs or smaller tires is usually the fix.

If its just rubbing the plastic you can either cut it off or grab a heat gun (about $20 at a hobby shop) and reshape it. I recommend reshaping it.

especially with the toyo m/t's (very wide) on my truck and others i've seen, it will rub the pinch weld. for some the fix is cutting or bending the metal back, but mine rubbed enough that i didn't want to chance cutting sheet metal and still having the rubs.

I had a 5" lift with 325/65/18 Nitto Terra Grapplers mounted on 18x9 Moto Metals. Believe me, it took all 5" to clear the tires without any rubbing problems. I didn't trim anything either. In my opinion, it looked like the tires needed to be bigger for that amount of lift. I would sell the wheels you have and buy some with a closer to stock offset and you will be fine. That would be cheaper than the lift if you want to keep the Lorenz coils and shocks. Here is a pic of how my truck used to look with the 35's and 5" of lift:

I'm almost positive it will clear, i trimmed a little plastic in the fender and cut very little sheet metal on the fender and it does not rub anywhere and you can't tell it has been cut unless you stick your head in the fender well. I'm very happy with the way it looks, rims are -13mm offset 4.5'' backspacing, with 4'' you should have no problem.

thanks for all the input guys. Next time I'm at home I will back under the camper and see if the two inch blocks in the back will really hamper the hooking up of the campre to be sure before I order a kit, thinking the 4.5" might be for me, who knows, i might have a great set of lorenz coils for sale soon...........
