4 all you single stack 3rd gen guys

im about to get a 3rd gen and i want to put a single 6" stack, about 3" above the cab. i have a 2nd gen 24v with a single 5" stack about 1'' above the cab. I was wondering if the sound will be to much too loud in the drone zone, my 2nd gen is loud in the cab at 62-69mph, but it is still tollerable. I just want it to be loud on the outside, but still be able to hear friends inside

p.s. and i dont beleave in a muffler

thanks,

Dayton

i had 2 5 inch stacks in the bed of my 3rd gen and they had to go i put a full 4in turbo back straight pipe and like it alot more. the stacks have a really bad drone sound around 70 miles per hour and the single stack will be even worse in my opion but is does look really good with the one stack. just remember there will be a whole in the bed when you done i still have a whole in mine and dont know what to do about it.

that's just a quick sound clip in the driveway.
yes there is a drone on the highway. havent towed yet, if it is still too loud, i will put my muffler in there.
the only mufflers i have now are twin turbos

my stack is a 7" with 5" turbo back....I only lasted 2 weeks of straight pipe before the novelty noise wore off now I have a 5"x51" Donaldson muffler and it's still pretty loud!!! smarty did seem to quiet my truck down some believe it or not....

if you don't believe in mufflers I hope you believe in ASPIRIN!!!!

Ya know Dayton I got to thinking, it would help the drone a lot if you put like a 6"-7" Bullhauler on it in the passager side corner of the bed pointed outwards and back a little...? I don't know if you would be a fan of that look though lol. I still think that something miter cut and 4" or so taller than the cab would be pretty close to tolerable...

You'll almost certainly believe in a muffler after listening to the stack for a few weeks.

do a 24" resonator and it will kill the drone.

I can vouch for that. I just got back from a 1200 mile round trip pulling 12,000 lbs. Dual 7" miters (straight piped) got old the first 100 miles of pulling the load. By the time I got to the hotel I was like

What year 3rd gen?? I noticed that my old 05'(325)6" stacks had a horrible drone str8 piped, but the 04'(305) is perfectly fine w/6" stacks and no muffler. It is loud but no drone. I also tow alot and the sound never bothers me.

My straight cut stack is about flush with the highest point of the roof and without a muffler it sounds like the slider in the back window is going to rattle right out when accecerating!!!!!!

I think that if I would have gone with a miter cut or bull hauler style I would not have the same LOUD in cab noise.

Hopefully the Donaldson will clear up all of the "extra noise"
