3rd gen tranny question .

Quick question for the group . It's time to change the fluids and filter , in my transmission , 2004.5 48RE . I tow a 5th wheel with . Take it too a shop or just change the fluid and filter ? I have the transmission service before . I just don't have a faith in the local tranny shops . What do you guys think , good or bad !
Is there anything that I should be worried about ?

It's easy to do, just messy.......if you still have the stock tranny pan.

You might consider upgrading to a Mag Hytec double deep pan when you do the service, if you decide to do it.

Just drop the pan and discard the fluid. (if you have a DD pan, it will have a drain plug making this much easier). Change out the filter. Replace the pan and refill. It's very easy. It doesn't get all the fluid out but it gets enough. My 30 year transmission man recommends what Im doing, and it seems to work so far....152K on mine so far...but it was built with DTT parts at 88K just because I wanted to upgrade for more power.

I've change mine out pretty religiously about every 20K miles but thinking of extending it to 25K.

Oh, you will need a torx head screw driver for the 2 filter screws.

# 25 Torx head. Might just a drain plug into your stock pan.
