3rd Gen Headlight Swap?
While thumbing thru the Auto Locator today I saw a 97 Ram 1500 that had 3rd gen headlights in it. I must say it looked SWEET! I keep hearing about the sport headlight swap but I can't find anything on here about a 3rd gen swap. So I have four questions:
- Has anyone on here done this swap?
- How hard is (would) it be to do?
- How much would it cost? (Id be doing all the work myself)
- Would it be worth it?
Thanks in advance guys!

When I look at the sport swap, it only goes up to 2001. I wonder if it covers 2002, or if thet 3rd gen you mentions would be easy on a 02. Anything would be an improvemnt in the light department.

Before I was reading on this board a few days ago about a sport light swap, I wasn't aware that they were different. Even after doing a google image search I can't pinpoint it. Anybody care to shed some light (no pun intended) on the subject for me?

The Sport headlights have 2 bulbs in each lens, a 9004 for low beams, and 9007 for high beams. Also have a clearer lens than the standard lens, which is more fluted.

The reason everything says that is the 2002 half ton was the new body style so they lump everything together as far as the '02s are concerned. For the '02 3/4 ton and 1 ton crowd we have to order the '01 stuff, it is all the same.

- Would it be worth it?
Take a ride in a 3rd gen truck at night before you swap the headlights. My '04 (as well as other 03-05's) are TERRIBLE at nighttime! My '85 Chevy had better lights! Do a search on the 3rd gen forum.. doesn't seem that different bulbs or even hid conversions help a whole lot. Not sure about the '06 lights though.. Just something to consider

Yea, I drive around with my highbeams on and never have a problem with people getting ******. Of course if I leave my 130W Off-Road lights on then people end up in the ditch. The 06 lights are great light wise, but I think they are just too big for the 94-02 Fenders and grille, it'd just look wierd.

Having owned a 2003 dodge I think I have info you might be interested in. The lights on those trucks suck just as bad as the 2nd gen. So bad in fact, I used to drive with my high beams on and hardly ever had another vehicle flash at me. I dont know how you would do it but the best way to get brighter lights is to get some litronic lights from a high end auto outof the junk yard and fit them to your truck.
