3k GSK vs 4k?

I've been contemplating this since I bought the truck. I had ordered a 3K, but something with the CC transaction got screwed up, so I will have to reorder anyways. I understand that turning 4000 requires heavy duty valve springs. My question would be: Is there ANY benefit to turning that many rpm, unless sled pulling and the like? Would it really matter on a street driven truck/playtoy? I think I've already talked myself out of it, but would like to know what others think.

unless u like to rev that high, i'd go with a 3gsk. Give's u plenty more fueling and the pedal gets alittle more sensitive but u get use to it pretty fast. I can't speak on the 4gsk from experience, but people say it's pretty touchy and ur idle is different, and it can be hard to get dialed in. I guess the question is, are u gonna rev past 3400?

the three is good enough for all around, since you have 3.55s you have longer legs than the 4.10's, so i wouldnt think the 4gsk would do much, cause by the time you get to 2800 youll be ready to catch another gear.

In response to everyone

Kas, i run a 4K in my truck WITHOUT the valve springs. I have had no issues with it, and even with the stock springs i have shifted my truck at 3400 or so RPMS, and havent had issues yet. I will be replacin the springs tho with the 60 lb ers in the near future... The 4K as stated is touchy, and well, the stock cam only makes power to a certain extent, but with the 4K u have a bit more room for improvement if you bump up your timing and get plates, or pump work done...

Box, I agree with you 100 percent on what uve said with the 4K, but i went with it anyways. again a cam and timing is the best thing possibly for the 4K kit... i myself keep the revs to about 3400 max.

Clutch, again good point, but the 4K shines with the timing as ive said, and with a different plate. I know that your truck isnt stock, and agree that a 3K is good enough for most applications but why not have more when u are already in there?

Rick

Ok, I had pretty much talked myself out of it anyways, but thought I'd ask. Seems like the 3k will be plenty for me.

Go with the 4k. It helps when pulling out into traffic, and having to get up and go.
The throttle should be the same as stock, if its adjusted right. As for the idle, just bump it up a little.
Check out citydiesel, they have the cheapest prices.
Do a 3gsk vs. 4gsk search on here and you will get the same response as I gave you.

totally agree with you on that Rick, believe me if i was going to do it again i would have the 4k, i wouldnt even waste my time on the 3gsk, still might try it later if i get bored, its only like $15 dollars to upgrade the 3gsk to the 4gsk.

Hmm, you guys raise some interesting points now. I think I will order the 3k, and down the road IF I decide to mod the motor further, I can always upgrade the GSK. Besides, I feel if I'm going to do valve springs, why not P&P the head, o-ring, valve job, and so forth and so on. None of that stuff is necessary, but makes sense to do it all at once and be done with it. Take full advantage of the whole package.

I say buy the 4 but leave the little spring out and just run it as a 3 until (if) you decide you want more. Your 215 pump will pull nice to 33-3400rpm unlike the smaller pumps with the 3k and that's probably more than you will ever need. Even though it will pull higher rpms, the power still drops off after 3k so revving higher proves? The little spring also makes the throttle touchier and also makes any governor bounce more pronounced. IMO the 4k have their uses but seldom in a street driven 215 pump.
