3500 towing capacity
I was looking at Dodge website and compare the different GVCW of the new 3500 and they ALL have 21,000lbs max.
I see duallys towing humongus toy haulers or 4 car haulers, how do they do that ? They are definitely above the 14,000lbs trailer weight rated from Dodge.

Should be a 23,000 max with a 4.10 gear. 4x2 can tow 16,200 according to the rating.

My SRW is 22,500. And the duallys have less GCWR due to the added tire(s) weight. Go figure.

40K...........Wow. Yep we can pay for any GCWR we want in Ca. too.
I draw the line 24-25K. To add another 10-15K behind me. No frickin way.
Not with my truck anyhow. I might pull 25-26 with a dually but 40 is way out of this guys comfort zone.

Maybe I should re-phrase it.
How do you change the max rating of the truck ? Is it just a registration matter or is there actually some upgrades to the truck to increase the limit ?

You can register you truck for as much as you want. Most states dont acknowledge upgrades. Take all four of your tires and add the single tire weight rating up and that would be your legal limit. You can get as much as you want, but they can get you when you go over your tire weight rating.

they can and will also get you if you go over your axle rating
2 front tires @ 3200 each is 6400 lbs, but if your front axle is only rated 6200, and somehow you are over that, you will get a big ticket

Im glad I joined this forum, I don't feel too crazy for pulling 38K about 1,100 miles after reading some of your posts! People keep asking me if my truck was hurting. I just tell them nope, thats why I bought a goat with a cummins!

I hot shot for the oilfiled, and used to pull heavier weights, then one day rolling down I-20 outa shreveport, I saw two wheels roll past me, it went from neat to stressful when i realized they were mine, LOLOL, I had about18,000 on my trailer that weighs 9,000 =27,000, now days i dont go over about 14,000 for a few hundred miles, 13,000 any miles, and Il do 16 or so if its only 30 or 40 miles, just not worth the stress and money for those road side repairs, LOL it totally sheared the lugs off the hub on one set of the dual tandems, never did find one of those wheels, ran off into the woods somewhere hiding, LOL trailer has 2 dual tandem 10k axlles, know a few guys that haul more but running two 12k axles

WOW....I just piced up a Jayco 32FT Eagle that books at 7??? and it seemed heavy for my 3500.....thought it strange, but dang it was hard to pull.
I can't imagine going much bigger.

The heavy haulers don't like hearing it but if you have a serious wreck when loaded over factory GCWR an attorney will easily prove you negligent , increasing the damage award .

Looking for the Max Capacity for Truck
Hey...We are looking for the MAX towing capacity for our 2007 Dodge Ram 3500 Diesel...it has the 3.73 gear ratio and the 6.7 engine. Can't find squat for info. We are looking to pick a Toy Hauler 5th Wheel...MAX weight load is 17400. There abouts...is this too heavy for the truck? We have a 4x4 and its automatic 6 speed overdrive. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!
