3500 rough ride

3500 rough ride
Is it just me or do the Mega cab trucks ride rougher than the extended cabs? I noticed the Mega 3500 has 5 leaf springs and 2 overloads and my extended cab dualie only has 4 leaf springs and 2 overloads but rides much smoother. The Mega is lifted as per signature but uses stock coils and springs so ride should not be stiffer than stock I wouldnt think. ALso have a loud annoying whistle in the drivers door seal when heater is on high any known fixes for the whistle? Thanks

Well,
Before the lift, when I have the BFG 315s and just a 2 inch spacer, my Megacab drove like a caddy. Now, with a 4.5 inch lift, and the 35 inch Toyo M/Ts, it drive like a cattle car. So, The Toyos with E rated sidewalls and my tire pressure have some to do with it. I think the Large Coil Spacers on the stock coils are suspects as well. And most will tell you the Bilstein 5100s that you have already help some.

I haven't compared it to the QC, but I think my MC rides pretty rough. I'm getting a squeak in the dash on the jittery freeways in CA. The MC is a heavier truck and so it makes sense that they might have more leaves and a slightly stiffer rate...

The 3/1 spring pack on the DRW trucks is a 2800 lb spring pack, and the 4/1 on the SRW is a 2600 lb pack.. so the SRW should ride better. But the wheel/tire combo may make a difference.

Been driving Dodges since 1968------------Dodges have always had a stiffer suspension the a Chevy or Ford------------Hence they will ride stiffer ---take a heavier load and suspensions last longer---------Want a truck, get a Dodge-----------want a car/truck get a Ford-------want a car ride get a Chevy
Want a real truck with a good ride--get a Dodge and put an air ride seat in it.

I run my 35" MT's at 25/35 psi front/rear when empty. It definitely helps compared to having the tires maxed out. You could get softer rear leaf's from KORE or Carli to help soften the ride, but then you will need airbags when you put 750 pounds or more in the bed.

I have used Bilsteins on my last 4 or 5 trucks and swear by them. They are stiff and i don't think are really meant to soften the ride. They will however soften blows from chuck holes ---speed bumps ect. they are intended to keep your tires in contact with the road.

My 3500 SRW seems to ride as good as my 2003 RAM 2500 Quad Cab SWB, but maybe it's due in part to the longer wheel base in spite of the additional rear leaf springs.

Well the overloads don't make contact until you get considerable compression on the mains... The mains are the same SRW to SRW, so your unloaded ride should be unaffected.
