3500 Rear Axle - Frame Question
I got a 96 3500 and I bought air bags for it and they dont fit. The bags fit only pick up versions not cab and chassis, which i happen to have.
Does any one know what makes the area between the tires and frame smaller on mine than a regular?
Is the axle shorter or the frame wider? I need 8 .5 inches of room and got a little over 5 inches. I wasted 300+ dollars for what seems to be useless to me. Any ideas on this would be great to me

I don't think you wasted anything. The 8.5 inches, is it the vertical mounting you are referring too? I suspect it is, cause that is what they wanted when I installed my air bags. Be a little more specific , and gee don't wuss out so fast, there is always a way.

Wusss OUT!!!
I have measured all the possible ways to mount them and all i can do is inside the frame where the load will be too close the the pumpkin for safe use.
They are 8.5 wide and 11 inch tall air bags for a 1 Ton truck to hold 6000lbs combined. They are made by firestone for a 1 ton dodge. I don't have the 8.5 inches between the frame and tires where the brackets are made to mount. I think Y-knot has a pick up version, from what the truck shops say. They say I cant do my airbags on my cab and chassis model. I just was wondering why dodge made the Cab n chassis differnt.

I think that you will find that the axle is narrower. The pickup uses the inside tire at the same location as a single wheel and adds the outer tire outside the pickup body. Shorter is stiffer and handles more weight.
