315/75/R16 tires on stock steel wheels

My truck needs tires and I don't have the cash right now to replace my 36" Dirt Grips. I'm looking to get a set of the new Dunlop Rover M/T Maxx Traction tires Size 315/75/R16 and mount them on my stock 16"X6.5" chrome stock wheels for the winter. Tire Rack has them for $181.00 a piece Load Range "E". I know it's been done. Just looking for feedback from anyone who's done it. Thanks, Glen

IMO, this is dangerous. You may have to look hard to find a tire shop that will mount these tires on a narrow rim like that. 8" wide is minimum for a 315.

Im sure someone will chime in and say theyve done it with no problems. But that doesnt necessarily mean that its right or safe.

285's are about as large and wide as youll want to go on a 6.5" wide rim.

i had them on my `94 or maybe it was 305`s didnt really see much difference in driving but i never pulled that much with them on it. only ran them for about 6 mo them put them on 10 in wheels. they didnt rub until i put them on wider wheels. if you pulled a trailer or loaded the bed i wouldnt do it.
