Thinking about getting some Firestone Destination MT's. They are available in 285/70-17, and the next step up is 315/70-17 (34.7" high). Any of you guys run 315/70s, did you lose a lot of power and mileage, would you put them on again? I don't spend much time off road, but when I do I am in gumbo and I have come very close to planting the truck with stock tires. I really want to gain some traction and ground clearance.

I am on my second set of 315-70-17's on my truck. When this set is worn out, I'll buy another set. If there is a power loss, I couldn't really tell it, even when towing, lots of power and power to spare. The additionalground clearance is nice, I'm in sagebrush country and whilethe bushes are not very big, they did hit the rockers a little - not after putting on the 35's.

As far a fuel mileage, I am not running a MT tire, maybe there is fuel mileage loss with an MT tire?? I am running an AT and my fuel mileage did not decrease.

I have a spare set of H2's and was thinking of mounting up a set of the Firestone Destination MT's so I would have a set for the mud season here. If you mount up a set, I will look forward to hearing what you're experience with them has been.

I'll do it again. All the difference in the world for these trucks. They did make a small difference in power felt in the seat of the pants, but very negligble. I have a very aggresive mud terrain on mine, and they are wearing ok, but did make a mileage loss. I'm ok with that though, I drive my Saturn when I need mileage! I might back off to an all terrain, but 315 is the size for me.

I had em but am going a little smaller. They look good and ride good but are tough on weak Dodge front end.

I'm looking at the Bridgestone Revo 2's or the Firestone Destination LTR. Essentially the same tire and the only E rated 315's out there to my knowledge. A few times a year they have a 25% off sale. 15% off going on now. They share the Uni-T molding process which = a round tire requiring minimal weight to balance.

I didn't mind 315's when I had them. I think my next set of tires will be 285/75's that are almost as tall but not quite as wide.

I ran a set for about 50,000 miles and then got tired of how they steered the truck around and cost mileage. Also, when towing the gearing was just enough higher that it was bothersome. But they were great off road and in the snow.

Now I'm on my third set of 285s and that is the size I like the best. No DW, no pulling to the right, no mileage problems, no power steering weakness and the gearing is fine. It looks a little less agressive but, for me, they are the best compromise for real world use. Whatever you get, stay away from BFGs.

I've got almost 88K (half stock wheels, last half on H2s) on two different sets and they have done me well. However, I have a set of five 285/75/17E Nitto TGs waiting in the garage for me to get my OEM wheels out of storage. Personally, I think they are about the same height as the BFGs never measured 34.x inches that they claimed, and the 285s are narrower, maybe gaining me some more mileage. Nothing bad to say about the 315s, but I'm going a different direction this time.

we have a set of 315/70/17s f/s destination on our brush truck(firetruck) and i never thought that they looked real wide but over all they deff. do the job and get us out of sticky conditions and theyve been wearing pretty good too.

Maybe I'd buy some again in that size.

I like the way they look and ride also, but I didn't like the way the truck steers with them on...felt like it would "bind" at slower speeds.

To me, finding the right rim to put them on was difficult. With the stock wheels they would rub the control arms. I had some aftermarket wheels with 4.25"s of back spacing and they stuck out too far for my taste and flung junk all the way up to my windows.

285 is the perfect size that I've tried so far.

I really like my 35's, with a stick they're good on the highway. Only problem I have is with my H2 wheels the tires come VERY close to my fenders, I can't run mud flaps, had to trim my flares cuz the tires rubbed them.
If I knew I was going to have these troubles I'd have gone for the 285/75's.

When these need changing I'll go that route unless by then I've gone to longer control arms then I'll stick with the 35's, they look good on a leveled truck IMO.
(Hope to do control arms with income tax refund)

Thanks for all the input. Firestone just came out with the Destination MTs in 285 and 315 with E ratings. Seems like more people with manuals like the 315s than thos with 48REs.

Yeah, the sticks have an OD that's a little on the low side, the bigger tires help get the revs down on the highway a bit.
