300 rwhp from SO 03

I recently purchased an 03 SO (250 hp) dually, it is a great truck but a little low on torque... I would like to get about 300 rwhp ( 600 lbs tq ). I have owned PSDs before so I am familiar with the need for gauges, intake, exhaust and possibly some tranny upgrades. Can I get to this kind of performance through tuning ( electronics ) or does it take upgrades to injectors, turbo etc. ? Thx for your help, I appreciate everyones's opinions and advice.

Bob.

Yes, a programmer or module alone will get you there and then some more.

Check out Edge, you will find a lot of people here that really like what they have to offer.

I had an 03 SO with a BHAF, 4" muffler only, and an Edge EZ on level 4 and made 299hp/554tq on the dyno. It pulled 10,000lb easily....

You could run any standard chip and get close to those numbers (edge, quadzilla, etc.) I ran the Quadzilla as a stand alone for some time and used the 60 hp setting for towing. That worked nice. Now I have the Smarty as well though I haven't towed with it yet I expect good things. I'll start with Smarty on two with the Quad still at 60hp.

If you want to pick just one thing though, my recommendation is the Smarty programmer. It costs a little more but is far more versatile than a plug in box.

Just try the Smarty and if you dont like it you can return it.

As far as new software just get it now since the current one is better well suited for you.

Smarty, Bully Dog, Edge, etc...will all get you the numbers you are looking for, and more. All safe EGT's, good fuel economy, etc....In other words, the power you are looking for is going to be inexpensive, easy to obtain, and leave you with a desire for MORE

I ran my 03 SO on the dyno a couple of months ago. I only had a couple of things done to my truck. A Stage 1 AFE intake, and I ran a Bully Dog Tripple Dog stacked w/ a Dr.Performance Stage ll box. I put down 385hp/925 ft lbs. That was with 35's on aswell. I think if I had stock tires on I would be pulling real close to 400hp.

Once you add that performance box to your truck you will never look back, it realy makes these SO's get up and run.

That sure is alot of torque for such a low HP number

I've often wondered why it was so high aswell. It was on John's dyno from Floor It Diesel, I beleive it was a DynoPac machine, but I can't remember if thats the right name or not.

I have the printout if it makes any difference.

That pull was the best of my 3 runs and I had the BDTD set on Extreme w/ the Dr.P box.

Maybe there was an issue w/ the tq reading being as I was the first one on the rollers.

My SO is a different truck now with Smarty loaded. Level 3 will add about 90 hp to the SO if I'm not mistaken.

No need here, just an observation is all. Never seen that high of a TQ reading with such a "low" HP number.

I don't know how much the Smarty is but you can get a DS Predator for $300 and the stack for $380. I tow on 100hp and love it! I'm guessing you'd be a little over 300 on the 100hp. Craig
