30 mph whine/vibration/howl HELP

Guys I just picked up a new to me 05 3500 Laramie and I am experiencing a whining/vibration/howling sound at 30 mph all the way to about 40 mph. Now if I let go of the gas it goes away but is noticeable only from 30-40 mph roughly and sounds like a howl or whining, no real vibration feeling just can't exactly pinpoint it.
Carrier bearing ??
I just had upper and lower ball joints done as well as axle ujoints.
Truck has approx 52,000 miles

Anyone know what this is ???

long beds are the only with a 2 piece drive shaft, it could be your u joints in the driveshaft! mine are squeeking right now

could also be your hubs? you should grease them why you can otherwise you will be in for some more money and they aint cheap. take the front wheels off pull the caliper off and disk take a 5 mm allen and remove the abs sensor on the hub its under the dust shileld get a needle greaser and give it about 10 squirts of grease the needle greaser doesnt release as much grease as the normal tip reinstall the sensor, dush shield disk and spin the hub a coulple times then put on the caliper and then the wheel do to both front wheels!

If it was the hubs wouldn't that noise I am hearing happen all the time then?
It only comes on at the certain speed mentioned and goes away when I let off gas.
Makes me think ujoints in driveshaft like you mentioned. Is there a way to easily check these ??
Thanks

Check it on a windy day and point into the wind and see if you can hear it when you are parked.

It is how I finally found that my noise is not from moving but from air through the cowl. I have not figured exactly where, but it goes away in the rain.

You may want to pull your front driveshaft out and go for a set drive to rule out the front joints and the double cardan.

UPDATE:
Today I filled the tank full of fuel and the sound is not as noticeable.
Can anyone shed some light for me on this ??? please
Obviously something to do with weight and angles

My aux tank is full and the noise is real loud right now.

I still say you will find it to be wind noise.

I have the same issue with my long bed right now. Started noticing it about 3 months ago. It's a howl that increases with engine rpm and goes away completely when I let off the go-pedal. It starts at around 15 mph and starts to die off around 40 mph. But like I said it fluctuates with engine rpms. With the windows down it definitely sounds like it's coming from behind the cab which leads me to believe it could be the carrier bearing. With such a sorry design (the carrier bearing), when the drivetrain is putting a load (so to speak) on the driveshaft it could be moving the insides of the bearing just enough to make it howl. My u-joints have less than 1000 miles on them so I'm ruling them out but the carrier is almost 300k miles old. Could this possibly be the reason for my howling?

My truck first had the noise during an ice fog event in Canada the first winter I had it. It had about 130,000 miles on it. It went away when I returned to warmer environment.

Last August the noise returned. It would come and go.

I noticed that it would not be there when I was not running the A/C. After a few tests, it was ruled out.

It would go away during the rain and when the road was wet sometimes.

Went home and started trying to find it.

Put sensors all around the bottom of the truck. No noise was heard, but you could hear it inside. It was shortly after I had the blower motor replaced.

I turned off the blower, noise still there.
I would put the truck in neutral, noise still there. I would turn off the truck and the noise was there when coasting.
I would roll down a window, the noise still there.

I started changing things.

Took off the simulators. Noise still there.
Changed the wheel bearing on the right side. Noise still there.
Changed the Carrier Bearing. Noise still there.

Papered the front of the truck. Noise still there.
Taped the windows, noise still there.

Twice now, in very windy conditions while parked, engine not running even, I have heard the noise.

i had the same problem on another truck it was a loud whine while moving the truck at 35mph+ turned out to be the u joints in the rear DS it would catch air creating a whistle like noise since the needle bearings where out and it was just the hollow cap with no gasket in place.

got an 04 one ton short wheel base.

130,000 miles and had the noise you spoke of. u joints was the first time.
a/c clutch second time. clutch welded to compressor , both new now.

carrier bearing is possible as heavy tow loads wear unevenly on it. if you knew the history of the truck or can see evidence of class three receiver wearing/worn bolt patterns, etc....

best advice is up on the lift, identify what has slack/tapers/wearing visible...

but check it out! son said his front wheel made some unexplained noise on 01 tiberon. we were checking out the loud muffler for a simple replacement. did the wheel as an afterthought (two days and hub bearing, ball joints later)

never a wasted minute on that stuff! good luck and low cost
