3.73 or 4.10
Guys,
I currently have a Ford F350 with a 4.10 rear end. I have had such problems with it that I am ready to take the trade beating and get rid of it. I am looking for a Dodge 3500 dually automatic with a 4.10 rear. I can find all kinds of 4.10's with manual transmissions and all kinds of 3.73's with autos.
How come I cannot find a single truck with a 4.10 and automatic transmission?
Any ideas?

Dunno. I wanted 3:50's and wound up with 4:10's. Great for towing, terrible for commuting. My old truck had 3:50's and I can't make up my mind which one I like better. With the price of fuel I don't drive my truck much anymore unless I am towing so I guess I'm better off with the 4:10's. My car gets 38-40 so If I'm not towing I'm driving it and I'm keeping alot of unecessary miles off my truck.

there's all kinds of autos with 410 in california. my combined weight is 17000# we have 373 with auto and wouldn't trade it for anything. if you know what you want check out www.carsdirect.com you can get whatever you want on there...

Unless your towing at the max,the 3.73s should be fine.
I'm at about 19k combined and with taller tires giving me an effective ratio of about 3.55s I don't have any problems.
I'd have to be towing at about the GCWR to even consider 4.10s.

Well, my 5th wheel trailer weighs in at 15,000 +. So I figured I definitely need 4.10 gears since they are rated for 16,000 lbs. The 3.73 are only rated for 14,000.
I'd kinda like to stay somewhat legal.

Most of the duallys with 6 speed I've found are 3:73, I had hard time finding a 4:10.
It could be market location difference, I know TX has many long box trucks, here in the midwest are a rarity compared to the short box.

Ive been hauling professionally for several years, and have always had the 3:73,s. and never had a problem, my trailer alone weighss 9000lbs, and usually loaded with around 11,000lbs to 13,000lbs, the 4:10,s cut fuel milage, Iguess if i were pulling mid 20,000,s all the time is when i would consider going to the lower gears, but IMO, 15,000 lb trailer should be no problem with the higher gears, keep the fuel milage if possible

Unless you are going to spend a fair amount of your time towing that trailer in the mountains, I agree with Cowboy6300 above. 3.73's and auto will serve you just fine.
