Cool 2wd coil spring rates??...is this true!?

I saw a thread on here, haven't seen it since. But I read the coil springs on a 2wd mega cab would fit on a reg 2wd, but the thickness was just a little more on a mega cab. Therefor it may ride a little stiffer and not bottom out as much and feel so soft in the front. Is this true?? Would this work? The guys that have tried this please say and how you like the ride? Am also gonna level the front 2" and the bilstien 5100s in the front, and the HDs in the rear. Read another thread on here that a ford part number was given for the 5100s to fit on a levelled 2wd. What do you guys think about all this? Tryin to get better ride too. Have bags already in the rear now the front needs help. I'm gonna get the drop blocks for the sway bar in the front. Thanks for all the help! I figure the stock springs may be fine and put the spacers on, but I gotta take all this apart anyway, may as well try to do something as far as coil springs go.

I would think that replacing the shocks would help more than anything. Bounce is from the shock not being able to control the spring and the stock shocks don't do that very well.

Yes, I'm kinda checking into that and lifting the front a little to get it away from the bumpstops more. Was just thinking, I'm tearin all of it apart may as well try to do something with the springs, I just can't figure out what.

2" front lift and Bilstein HDs will fit your bill fine without the need for different springs. This is how I roll, as well as flipping the rear spacers. I'm not sure if the megas springs are heavier or not, they would swap no problem, I just don't think you will see any extended benefits because the Bilsteins will really be the thing that helps out more. Night and day difference when I had the hds put on. Just something to consider.

(These comments are based on a 2WD IFS):

You'll want to play with tire pressures as well. I wouldn't go below what DODGE says I'm to run on my 2004.0 2WD which is 50-psi. I have experimented with 40-psi to 60-psi over thousands of miles, solo and towing, and 50 seems to be the right number. Maybe 53, but not 47 (if that helps). I have 160k on truck now, and the oem Michelins and shocks were replaced 40k ago with standard BILSTEIN replacements and new oem-spec MICHELIN.

If you really are going to tear into the front end, then don't forget engine and body mount bushings. Poly bushings on the anti-roll bar (if anyone ever figures out what will work) would also be good. Also, check steering shaft play!

Before you do the work, empty the truck of all except you and a full tank of fuel, put it on a public scale for FF/RR axle weights and compute the weight ratio FF to RR. Do so again after lift. Only a minor number change might make a big difference on bottoming out (I think that has happened to me once). After that I would consider aftermarket rear leaf packs with a softer "top" as the oem pieces ARE hard on the front end. (My FF GAWR is 4,750 versus 5,200 on the 4WD (GVWR is still 9000), so those rear leafs have even more "leverage", IMO).

A rear anti-roll bar (HELWIG) would also be on my list (actually, before any of what you are planning).

Was kinda thinkin about a 2.5" spacer, get new moog links and all new bushings for the sway bar. Also getting the drop blocks for it. I think it may be just fine after that, with the airbags it'll ride closer to level with the 2.5". Was also thinking of doing the bilstein hds in the rear but the 5100s in the front, I got a part number that will work! Tire pressure has to be run to max, I've played with that before, but this is a dually, and have 265/70/17 tires in rear, and they're close, but pumped all the way up and full load they don't touch, anything less would.

If I did the 2.5" spacer, is there a longer front shock I'd need? Or is stock length ok??

Rick, thanks again for the help on picking my turbo! Has been absolutely amazing!

stock length should be fine, I've had no issues.

Yeah, I'm wanting to go ahead and get the HDs all around but have heard stock length is a big no no for anything over 2" lift. And I'm gonna get the 2.5". I can get the 5100s, but have to kinda do some stuff to them to make them work. So, I'm not so sure yet. The place I'd buy from is having 15% off right now and free shipping.

Haven't heard that....but I believe you. I just haven't had any issues yet and I have a 2" front lift. Wouldn't be no prob running 5100s on front.

Guess I'll get the 5100s for the front. Gonna have a metal fabricator I know make the bar pins I'll need for them. He's also gonna build a stock looking tailgate but black diamondplate!
