will 2wd 5 speed work in 4wd truck?

I have found a 5 speed from a 2000 2wd truck. I have a 96 auto 4wd.
As I understand it, the speedo sensor is not in the 2000 tranny. can I convert the tranny to accept the speedo sensor as in my 96? or too much work.

tell me if I'm crazy.

I want the transfer case to work as well. Is it posible or too much work? Should I look for a tranny closer to my year truck?

The year of the truck doesnt matter as much. Its the 2wd or 4wd that causes the problem. Im not sure about 5 speeds but i know that on automatic transmissions that tailhousing has to be changed because of the transfer case. U might also have to change driveshafts because of length.

The 5speed output shaft spline count is 29, plus longer on the 2wd over the 4wd, whereas the automatic output shaft is 23 spline. You'd need a 4wd 5speed and Tcase to swap over.
The trans output speed sensor on the O/D section is only for the governor circuit, to control shift points. Won't need that on the 5speed. Your speedo sensor is on your Tcase on the 96 4WD. So you'd need a similar year model for a 5 speed.

I'd get it... take your Transmission to a local garage and get them to swap shafts.. find a 4x4 shaft, and have them swap it into your 2wd tranny...'
well then again, labor rates would kill yah
