2nd Gen Guru's I need Lots of Help Please
OK I bought a 97 engine last summer that got oil in the coolant bottle. The guy said he only drove it onto a trailer and into his shop after it puked on the ground, He said maybe 5 min run time. Anyway I finally decided to tear into it today and found the HG blown out. The rest looks Very nice, In fact I am pretty sure It has been rebuilt or atleast had the head redone since it was not painted. So now to my Questions,
#1 It is supposed to have Marine injectors in it, Is there any way to tell?
#2 What Turbo should I run for 450 to 475 HP
#3 Or should I run Compounds? What Turbos for Compounds?
#4 I am gonna take the head in and have it O-ringed and Use a Marine Gasket and ARP Head Studs. Is that a good Setup?
#5 Does anyone have pics of the Stock OEM piston tops?
Anyway I will have more questions because I am new to The 2nd gen Cummins but I am EXCITED
Thank you.
Oh Here
Is a pic of the Gasket, It looked like A cheep Gasket to me

A healthy one, probably an S300 build of some sort
I've been thinking about setting up a WH1C/HT3B on my truck, but $$$ aren't there right now.
Sorry I don't right now

That gasket looks just like the one off of my engine. A Fel Pro w/ the same orange striping. My gasket was blown just like yours, oil in the coolant, and my engine had been run HOT! When I had my engine out and head off,the cylinders looked ok,not great. I decided to pull the pistons out and sure enough, two of my pistons had the skirts melted. Now I'm rebuilding the motor. Not trying to scare you but might want to check it a little closer. My block was warped as well on the deck surface where the head bolts to the block. Good luck....

Not sure about your gasket - haven't had mine off yet!? Hope I don't have to too soon. Really Nice '79 Ford!!! Looks like you've had quite a few experances already with a Cummins Engine! Great work!

Thank you, Yes I have had the 93 12 valve in there for 4 years and it runs Great, It dyno's at 420 and 992 with 50% meth/water. It done like 365 wo/water. I should just leave it alone But I have wanted a 215 P-pump since day one and now I have one. I also have a 96 Auto Engine and I think they are 195 right? Anyway I have the head in getting O-ringed right now and Ordered Head Studs today. I just hope the ARP studs are good. They are NOT liked in the Power Stroke world and thats why I have A-1 H11 Studs in my Stroker but one of my Cummins buddys says the H11s Suck in the Cummins

If you can squeeze 450hp out with a stock turbo its going to be a real hot 450, I would take the money that would be spent to modify the stock turbo and put towards something bigger and better for the task. I think you'd be better off going to an HTT HTB2 or an Industrial Injection phatshaft or super phatshaft series of turbos.
