Tim,
Was there any days in specific that were being mentioned? I would be interested in this one, since it is in my back yard.

I need a good excuse to get away even though I won't be drag racing (new clutch won't hold the new horsepower).
We shut down the end of October and will be shut down into the first week in December or so and that's only if everything goes right which they usually don't. Depending on what date you set is whether I can make this one or not. I'll be watching.

Is there still an interest, I know I am and others seem to be. Does any one remeber who set it up last time?

I just did a search on it and John_P and Papasmurf put it together.

I am interested, lets see if we can get Porterfield and crew to make it happen.

Thanks for the interest in the N.C. Dyno and Drag Race Event
fellas! I will contact Chris Dubie and see what we can put
together for later this year. We had it in December of last
year and it was a little cold, so maybe we could shoot for
early or mid November if that sounds good for everyone.
Check your schedules and get back to me. I will discuss
this with Chris (PapaSmurf) and some of last year
"sponsors" and get back to you guys.

I'm interested in attending. I'll keep an eye on the thread. NC 18 needs to have another get together anyway. The last one was too long ago. :D

Hello
John and his son John and I and my son Geoffrey will be going out to the local drag strip ( Coastal Plains Dragway) tomarrow evening. John and I talked about putting another meet together and we will see if the CPD folks will support us.
I am thinking opening it up to anyone with a pickup can run. There was a ford f150 down in Commerce Ga. that ran a 14? mph in the 1/4 mile against the Jeff Garmon drag truck. Course it was on drugs. If we put a race together I am thinking it should be structured as follows.
I Diesel only, auto tranny
II Diesel only, stick shift tranny
III Gas only, auto tranny
IV Gas only, stick shift tranny
V RUN WHAT YOU BRUNG (is that a word) Run anything you want with four wheels.
John and I talked about the event, some of the above is just me thinking out loud on the computer.

The only rule that I think we need is the following.
If your not here to a have a good time and enjoy each others company than, don't bother to show up.

Please don't get the wrong idea we had a good time last year, I just don't want to get a bunch of attitude going this year.
Any thoughts on this please send them to John or I. PM them if you like.
Take care
See Ya
Chris

Chris has given a pretty good rundown on what we need
to do to have the event again. Wayne Murphy @ "Waynes
Dyno and Performance" in Jacksonville has graciously
agreed to run our trucks on his Dynojet again this year.
Thanks Wayne!;) He suggested the first Saturday in
December (the 4th) as a "target date." As we did last
year, we can do dyno runs on Saturday and then go
to the drag strip on Sunday provided that "Coastal
Plains Dragstrip" will work with us like they did last
year. I recently attended the N.C. Hemi Owners Group
get together (Dyno and Drag Race) and the dragstrip
required a deposit from them. Our contact from last year
(Gary) has left the track, so Chris and I will talk to the
management tomorrow night to see what they require.

A couple of members have e-mailed me asking that this
be a Dodge Truck Only Event. Whatever is decided upon
by all of you, I agree with Chris about breaking the trucks
down into classes similar to what Chris described or what
"Hammer" is going to do at the "Fall Brawl Event." This
would apply to the dyno event and the drag racing.

Give us your thoughts and input. We will get back to you
after we talk to the management at "Coastal Plains Dragway."

Count me in. All brands are fine with me. I was surprised at the #'s the Duramax's put down last year.

John_P
10-01-2004, 06:45 AM
We talked to the management at "Coastal Plains Dragway"
last night. They have had some personnel leave, namely,
the guy who helped us out last year, Gary. Their rules
and procedures have changed quite a bit since our event
last year. They said that as soon as the colder weather
starts (probably early November) they will change their
"test and tune" night from Thursdays to Sunday. IF the
temperatures don't get below 45 degrees the track would
be open like any other "test and tune" day and the admission
for racing would be $15.00 for each truck and $8.00 for any
spectator. However, if the temperature DOES get below 45
degrees they said they will probably close the track for the
winter. In that case, we would need to "rent" the track for
the day. Their fee for that is $300.00 for a half day and $400.00
for all day. "All day" is considered to be from 9 AM to 5 PM.
One advantage to this is we would have the track all to
ourselves like last year. Under this "rental" situation we
will need around fifteen (15) members to put in about
$25.00 each to rent this track for the one day. This would
keep the cost fairly low for the racers. This is what Tom
Wheeler from the N.C. Dodge Hemi Owners Association
(DTW) did about a month ago and it worked out well.
Johnner and I attended that event and had a great time.
I told Tom I would like to invite members of his group and
will post this on the dtw website.

So, in summary, we can go ahead and schedule the dyno
event and wait to see about the racetrack in which case if
they close for the winter we will be out of luck. Or we can
go ahead and schedule the event and will need around
fifteen FIRM commitments from anyone who wants to race.

Let me know what you think.

If this is to be a DTR chapter event then it has to be open to any brand of vehicle. We do NOT discriminate against any brand vehicle, or individual.

Unless of course as John has already stated, Someone brings an attitude with them. It is all about having fun and being courteous to one another.

I hope I can make this event myself, I may cook us up some Brats if I can find a fire hat :D

John and Chris D.
Let me know if you need a hand with anything, since I live down the road from Wayne's it would not be a bother to bring things along. I know I can't help with the grill, mine weighs about 250 lbs. But propane is no problem.

Hello again
I am thinking about bringing the goose neck trailer, It seems like my truck is happier when it's pulling something. I would bring the 5er but the corner at the end is to sharp and I would hate to throw everything outa the cabnets. I wonder what I could run on the dragway:D [eyecrazy] [laugh] That and if there are any breakdowns there would be a trailer on hand to tote off the caranage.
KingD
I am going to stay somewhat nice this year and not talk as much stuff. I hope to bring out a larger mix and I for one would like to see the big three well represented, as well as the import stuff.
The main effort will be to enjoy the day and have fun.

David
Yes I am a Grandpa. Leslie had a little girl Taylor Marie on the 9 of July. I don't know anything about haired over. Geoffrey and I are running up to Dover Del this weekend to see them.

We'll be working 80 hours a week from the 28'th of October to the end of November (SmurF knows what I look like during that period). Hoping to close out around the last of November so I will definately need a break if it is in December. I wouldn't race since I have the same problem I had last year. Too much HP for the clutch I have. But I would make it to see the folks again.

Hello to you all. I have looked at the calendar and Dec. 4th is the date.
I do want to make one thing clear. KingD is the one that contacted me first about the get together we had here last year and then John P and Chris D took it and made it bigger. Not taking any thing away from these 3 men but it was a group effort that made it such a big deal and I was proud to be part of it and hope we can make it bigger this year.
As for the different classes don't get to carried away. JohnP and myself have talked and I suggested a #2 class and then a drug class. But what do you do about the guy that has 1 turbo veruses somebody that has 2 or 3 turbo's all on #2.
I personally want to see a Ford come and whip up on all you Chevy and Dodge guys. I may even go as far as offering a reward for any Ford that can whip up on old JohnP's red rocket on the dyno and at the track. How's that for smack talking John ?????
I may even try to get him with my Lightning:eek:
Everybody bring you Fords, Dodges and Chevys and have a good time. Also how do we get this out to other Diesel sites?

Chris:

The Dyno Event will be held at "Waynes Dyno and Performance"
just outside Jacksonville, N.C. The drag strip is just a few
miles from Waynes' shop but near Richlands, N.C.

Chris Dubie or myself will post some hotel information
in a few days.

Hello
It's time to get a feel for how is going to dyno and who is going to race and who is going to do both.
That is not a problem finding a room to stay at, there are plenty close by.
If you are planning on this event either post your intentions here or PM John or me.

John
We may need to go to the dragway and get this locked on. I'll try and get intouch with you on Wedsday.

I am interested in both and this will be the first time on a dyno and track for me. I hope this goes off on the fourth of December, since I am deploying for a year in January. I want to get some numbers from my truck to know what toys to save up for while I am gone. Will we get pricing and reservations for the dyno/track once everything is finalized? Do we have to be a member of any particular club or can anyone show up? Thanks

No Sir,
You don't need to be a member,,,,,,, all ya need is a truck and a good sense of humor cause we do like to kid around with the Ford and GM guys. Be warned,,,,, there are a couple of North Carolina DuraMaxes that are awful quick at the strip! ain't that right Jess?,,, :D

Hope to see ya down there. :D

PapaSmurf
10-27-2004, 08:40 PM
hello
I will try and anwser the pending questions.
First no you do not have to belong to a certain club to race.
Last year the Chevys came on strong and laid some very strong numbers on the dyno and at the drag strip they where very fast till the tranny had other plans. I will go out on that limb and tell you that I don't think we have a Dodge that can keep up with them. They where running drugs but man they where fast. I would like to see a race that has Jess and the Duramax run with a goose neck trailer and me and my truck with the "little six cylinder" with a goose neck trailer. Thoughts?
I will have to talk to the Dynoman and see if active duty military will get a discount. I do not have the cost to run the dyno, I will ask him that as well. I am thinking it will be about $60 for three runs. He will have a cleaning of his shop he will have to deal with after we are done.

This should be a pretty good time, the crap we talk is all in good fun.
If you have a truck and want to race then by all means come on out.
I do not have the cost to run the drag strip yet.
I will be working this to try and make it happen as smooth as it did last year. I am not going to get involved in the chow thing this year. I will get a huge gas grill from the base and let folks cook what ever they want to on it. I plan on either raceing or taping this event to send to Leigh(my wife) over in Iraq. She had a huge part in everything last year.
Any other questions let me know.
Last year the duramaxes kicked the cummins butts.
I sure hope that don't happen again. If it does then I hope everyone had a good time and there was alot of B S spread around.
See Ya
Chris

Chris, I am up for racing and dynoing. I am hoping to have something for the Duramaxs on the track. As luck would have it my wifes Christmas party is Dec4th again( thats the reason I didnt race last year) but I am gonna bring a trailer to get home just in case and race anyways. Let me know if you need me to bring anything, I will probably stay in the Holiday inn again. Tim

Chris, your evaluation of Jess and Buck's Duramaxes are
pretty much right on, with the exception of one thing.
According to my notes from the dyno and drag racing,
on #2 diesel alone neither of them got under 13 seconds
in the quarter mile. I believe the best was right at 13
seconds flat. Jess can correct that if I am wrong, but
I believe that is right. Johnner (banshee) was able to
run a 12.94 @ 103 in my 2002 Dodge CTD on only #2
diesel. If we are able to have a few Dodges running
a nitrous/propane mix like Jess and Buck do, I believe
the results will be different this year. If "Jetpilot" had
come last year like he planned Jess and Buck would
have had some good competition.

BTW Chris,.....I called your house last week and told
your son to have you call me. Did you get the message??

Hello
Chris
Bring it on. This event is for everyone that drives a truck, even those with spark plugs :D

John _P and I talked tonight and everything seems to be moving along pretty good. I will post some of what we talked about. As long as the weather stays above 45 degrees we will not have to buy the track for the day. If it drops below 45 degrees we will. so we can race. The cost to race will be figured out soon, if we do have to rent the track for just us. I hope I am not causing confussion.
The racing with a trailer is not a dead issue YET. I hope to go out to the race track in the next week or so and talk to the race track folks. That is one of the questions. My truck runs better when something is hooked to it. [eyecrazy] [eyecrazy]

hey guys, papa i am game but i dont hjave a 5th wheel hookup,i can bring a 28 foot enclosed car trailer that we could run a few passes with,it would be fun to try ,but i am not sure how the trailer will react to those speeds,i will give it a few for fun 1/4 runs and let you know, but in the fun of sportsman ship i am in.yes dodges did have the fastest et on diesel only last year, john p's truck ,which was immaculate was a about .05 seconds faster through the 1/4 than mine was, however in all fairness,i didnt have aftermarket turbos or injects, only programming and a tranny.we still dont have a turbo yet but hopefully we may get a prototype to try by then.unless breakage occurs we will run as fast on #2 this year as we did with drugs last year.
also on a note of hopeing to bring in the big guns,i have some potential sponsor donor monet lined up for a heads up diesel racing class.i have contacted dennis perry about coming ,and hope to get in touch with jeff garmon and a few other heavy hitters.would love to see a dodge or a fodge make a 10 second pass, sorry the dmax will not be doing a 10 second pass this year.hopefully the tranny is settled out,but who knows diesel tq can break anything.i hope for this to be the best event ever and hope there are some dodges or even fords there that will best us out.to me it is all fun and the ribbing is that to,i love the whole diesel performance secene and as long as it smokes, i am all for it.

John_P i can always come up with more ecuses those were just the ones on top of my head.not much new has been developed for the dmax we have a single tuner program now that will produce over 500 and 1000 to the tires or has on several occasions.with nos and lp mid 600s shouldnt be a big push at all,you know we will just keep ajusting till we get the numbers we want.i am glad Tim is coming back and hope he doesnt need that trailer he said he was bringing along.how about your shied truck John,i am sure its gonna be there putting down some major hp numbers and running the 1/4 in the 12s or faster right.hopefully you will bring it would love to film it all over with the video cam like i did your other truck last year.

papa i did a little playing with the trailer and il bring it but i think i can pull the 28 foot enclosed trailer according to gtech in the mid 14s,if memory serevescorrect that is what your truck ran last year in the 1/4 wit out a trailer.now i know you have done some work to it but i dont see were it would behove you to follow through with this plan.but as stated earlier i am in.this trailer doesnt weight a great deal but does offer some pretty severe wind resistance.know we cold always put a small car in there and strap it down, but i am a bit leary of racing with too much weight in there, its not the pulling that bothers me its the slowing down.any way just some food for thaught

as far as Wayne and a psd coming to spank us i welcome it,i honestly dont think it will touch the dmax but it will prolly get a few dodges and some moderatley chipped dmaxes.i hope to have a few more 6.0s show up ,only one last year and hope for some 7.3s as well.

if you guys know of any super fast diesels try to get them to come down,i should have an idea of money involved by next weeekend,i am sure of 500-750 but may be a s high as 1250 or more.............jess

oh yeah one more thing, did i mention i have an 04 psd now

Ok Jess you got me.
My best time with just my truck was something like a 16.5 or so.
I bet if you go measure that trailer again it is a few feet longer. Pulling a trailer only added 2 seconds to you 1/4 mile time. WOW

Jack:

Heh buddy, good to hear from you!!;)

FYI and for planning, the dyno event is scheduled for
Saturday December 4, 2004 at "Waynes Dyno and
Performance" 3789 Richlands Highway, Jacksonville,
N.C. (910) 346-8623. We are planning to start the
dyno runs around 9:00-9:30 A.M. and run until
everyone is finished. Then on Sunday morning at
around 10:00 A.M. we will be out at "Coastal Plains
Dragway" 4744 Richlands Highway, Jacksonville, N.C.
(just a few miles from "Waynes") where we are
planning on racing the trucks like we did last year.
The only "glitch" at this time is at the drag strip.
If the temperature does not go below 45 degrees
the track will stay open and anyone racing will pay
the regular entry fee of $15.00. Non-racers-$8.00.
However, if the weather turns cold (temps below
45 degrees) Coatsal Plains closes the track. In that
case we would have to pay a track rental fee of
$400.00 to have the track to ourselves for the day.
Recently, the N.C. Hemi (Truck) Owners Group did
just that and everyone paid a part ($25.00) to
be able to race. Anyway, that is the schedule right
now.

It sure would be GREAT to see you come!:D You and
I have not been at an event together since the Dyno Day
at "True Blue Performance" in Benson three years ago???

Hope you can make it Jack!!!

Hello all

Jess
You got me. There is no way that I can run even close to your 14 pulling a trailer. I guess we forget about racing with trailers attached. ;)

I received a e mail from my wife and she would like me to dyno her truck. So I will probably be dynoing two trucks on Saturday.
She is doing pretty good, they are dodging RPG/motar rounds daily but other that, they are taking care of business. She also said it rained like crazy and now everything is a slimmy mess. The ground over there is like clay and is a real bear when it gets wet.
I will be busy taping everything going on. I bought a DVD recorder so I can send her stuff and I will be making a dvd to send her.

We have some of the fastest Chevys on the EAST COAST coming to this event, I think it would be very cool if we could get some of the many FAST running Dodges to come run against them.

I will bring the GN to the event just in case we need to load up a truck (regardless of brand) that has lost it's motavation. (spelling)

It would even be better if the fuel prices would drop some more. $2.17 I paid tonight. I filled one truck up thinking that depending on which president we get the prices will either start to drop or go higher.

Mrs Smurf here,

Haven't dodge any incoming in a day! Rockets and mortars fell outside of our base early this morning. :o Each day becomes a new challenge. For the better part of the day, I have one of the best bunkers! So, I am pretty safe!

I will be looking forward to the video of this event. It should be good show, seems to me that the word of mouth worked pretty good. Chris will have to pullup the flyer from last yr and tweet it some. I'll have to bribe Geoff to have him take off the day to run my truck down the track for his MOM. [laugh]

I'll keep looking at the site when our internet is up. We are down and up quite a bit with opsec, don't want word to leak out to the bad guys. :( Thank goodness for the right enough electoral votes and we will still have a miltary that will stand tall and proud. VOTING works...... I should know, I am the Voting Officer as well.

Dennis as for camp grounds, Cabin Creek is west on Hwy 17 South, about 15-20 miles away. Chris, John_P there is a small camp ground west on Hwy 24/258 split before you get into Richlands, by riding stables. I can't remember the name of the place, that one may be closer than the other.

Keep on posting good info and spreading the news about this event. Each year the amount of trucks in NC grows. Keep up the great work. Can't wait to get home and play with the trucks and tractors. I will mention, I have the greatest husband anyone could ask for. He's put up with my crazy ideas for 20 yrs.

Take care, see every one in March.

That was a nice surprise hearing from Leigh. I did notice that even with her half the world away she is still on top of things. I to am going to brag a bit, it's nice being married to a gal who likes Diesel trucks, racing and such. :D
I will get into the computer and try and find the flyer from last year. If I can find it I will change a few things and print off a bunch. I have been talking about it with the young Marines that I work with. When I tell them there will be a few Diesels there that will be running in the 12 second range. Two of the fastest Chevys on the east coast will be there to take on the Dodges.

Take care

At this time you don't need to pre-pay on anything. Wayne
will charge the members that want to run on the dyno
according to how many runs etc. as listed above. As far
as the drag strip, we are hoping the weather stays a little
warmer until AFTER our rally. That way, we can each just
pay the regular $15.00 "test and tune" admission and not
have to worry about the track rental fee should the track
close because of cold weather.

me a price of $27.00 per night. This includes one (1) electric
outlet (30 or 50 amp), one (1) sewer connection and one (1)
water hook-up. He asked that if anyone plans to stay there
that they call ahead and make a reservation with them. You
can speak with him or his wife Sharon. This camprground is

Well, looks like I'm out of the running (literally) for this event. Mine started acting up this morning and I didn't think it was going to get me home. No power, no smoke, no boost, and the hammer feels like you're stepping on a plum. Turbo hoses are all in tact, good fuel pressure, and no leaks I can find anywhere. Air filter is not clogged and nothing looks out of the ordinary from the outside. It's going to have to sit there till next year now till I figure out what I'm going to do with it. With all the stuff I've been through on this truck this year, I'm seriously considering turning that engine into a boat anchor and going back stock. Luckily, I've got my 92 to fall back on.

Ya'll have a good time.

It's fine to supply a link in a post. We just don't allow the links to be put in the signatures unless you are a site advertiser. Obviously, we don't want the same link to show up in every post that a person makes, but supplying a link to look for info or point out a certain product in a pertaining thread is fine. :)

I talked with Chris last night and we are going to check the
status of the drag strip to make sure that Coastal Plains
is still going to be open on Sunday for the "test and tune."
As I said in my earlier posts,.....if they do close because
of cold weather we will have to pay out the track rental
fee of $400.00 to have the track to ourselves all day.
So far we figure we have ten (10) members wanting to
race so that would be $40.00 each! If we get to this
situation how many of you are willing to do this??
Hopefully it won't come to that, but Chris and I are
trying to plan ahead.
-------------------------
Jared and Tim:

You guys asked about classes. One limiting factor on that
is the trophies. I am still trying to secure sponsors for the
trophies and don't think I will get enough to make as many
classes as Hammer had at "Fall Brawl." If you guys want
to do it on paper for the "bragging rights" that is fine with
us. Let me know what you think...................

BTW Tim what do mean when you say "you have some
new sticks coming to test out?" Tim, I also have those

john we will have for sure 2 to dyno and race and perhaps as many as 5 for both.also feel free to email me for help on the trophys or to sponsor a trophy for a class, would be an honor,as far as classes go and break downs,it will be interesting to see how it is done.for instance, and i mean no offence to any one hear just my .02 a few years back when i had a dodge , the diesel mod scene and technology wasnt as far along as it is know.i remeber reading the the tdr magazine and twin turbos were treated very similar to nos and lp,at least as far as acknowlegdment in the mag went.now this was only 4 years ago, well alot has changed and the technology for the dodge as well as others has come a long long ways, but on the other side of the coin, the dmax has no reliable test proven injectors or turbos that have been released for purchase.the ford 7.3s are just starting to gain some ground with the new hpop technology.and the new psd 6.0s i dont ever see them catching up.i would hate to see the classes broken down into groups that wouldnt give all makes and models equal footing.me personally i dont see a big difference between twins and nos as far as power goes, dont get me wrong if twins were an option for the dmax i would be in but as of now it isnt.why not perhaps have classes that are as follows(just suggestions) 1 plug in play class, basically stock truck with plug in module or flash tuner. or just screws turned on the 12 valves no major engine or turbo up grades. 2 class for dialy driven street diesel with bigger single chargers injects tranny upgrades.exct.. 3 twins and diesels with one power adder such as lp or nos....4 all out any goes, jada rockets included.just suggestions for a start, once again my intent is not to start a fight or to anger people just giving on opinion.... hope to see you all there....jess

I was hoping to run this 99 down the quarter to compare it to last year with all the work I had done but it is sitting in the car port near dead right now until I decide what to do with it. I've got the 92 sold already and the 99 may be going right behind it if I can ever get it running right again. I've got over $1600 in that truck this year and I'm about done with it all together.

Ya'll have a good time.

Sorry to hear about the bad luck. Don't do it. Don't get rid of that great looking truck. I would check on a warrinty (spelling) on the pump before I did anything. Good luck Buddy

King D
I read and reread your post. It was pretty good, I do not know enough about twins and Nos/other things being equal so I can not even go there.

If we have classes here is how I think they should go.
Stock
I mean bare bones stock no ez box no injectors NO anything except what the OEM put in it from the factory. If it smokes then we look for stuff. We pretty much know what truck will run as far as HP goes. I will have to go back to the FALL BRAWL and see how they evened the score for the older trucks with the less
stock HP.

Modified
Plug and plays OK
Injectors OK
ONE turbo OK

Modified w/Additional fuel sources
one turbo
Pump what ever you want into the engine.
Subject to a safty inspection.

Modified w/ Additional air sources.
Run what ever turbo combination you desire.
NO additional fuel source
Water injection is OK
Subject to a safty inspection.

Unlimited
Run what you brung and hope you brung enough.
Subject to a safty inspection.

that is my two cents worth.
Any thoughts?? John is working on the trophys, if we run it this way we will need 5 trophys

At the race track we will be bracket racing so you will be racing the clock. That means that me in my slow 16.5 truck may run against the fast truck of King D 11/12 sec truck. I will almost be at the end of the run before he will get the green light:D [laugh] :D
This sounds like a great time.
Just remember this is all in good taste and fun
See Ya

Hello again
For the stock class
If you are running a different air intake system that is OK
Different exhaust OK
Crome radiator cap MAYBE:D [laugh] :D OK
different tire/rim combo OK

This is going to be a great time
Hope to see old (young) friends and meet new friends young and old.
See Ya in a few weeks

As for the HOOTERS thing.
If folks would like to go there on Friday evening then I guess I can force myself to drive there for dinner or a evening snack on chicken wings of course.
Who and what time is good to meet at HOOTERS on Friday night.

I only go there because I really like the wings they serve. ;)
My wife set the rules years ago I can look but not touch, and when I look I must not look like I am looking;) :p Ain't that right Honey.;) [laugh] :D ;)
Man I can sure dig a hole fast can't I

Tim:

You are welocome on the driveshaft hoops!;) And "Hooters"
sounds great to Johnner and I for Friday night.

---------
Joel:

Sorry to hear about your truck. I believe if you will just call
J.P. @ Scheid Diesel (1-800-669-1593) that he will be able
to help you out with that pump. It came from Scheid right?

---------
Jess:

Some of your ideas on the classes sound alright, but as
I said last year I disagree with you about the twins and
nitrous being the same. The reason for that???

With the nitrous systems you and Buck run, you guys can
just keep digging into your plastic bag of jets and adding
more and more gas as the runs go on, kind of like you did
last year. As the size of the jet goes up, so does the H.P.
and torque! The twin turbos on my truck or say Tim's truck
do add H.P. over a single charger, BUT,...........you cannot
ADD anymore H.P. by changing a jet!! You said there
is no twin turbo systems for the Duramaxes and that is
also incorrect. Clint Cannon had a very good set-up on
his up until he took it off last year. As I recall, he was
running the stock Chevy Duramax Turbo on top and had
a Holset HT3B on the bottom. I rode in the truck and it
ran darn good!! You are also wrong on the injectors for
the Duramaxes. Both ATS and Scheid Diesel can build you
a set of injectors for your trucks!! They are very expensive
though ($1200-$1500.00) and it is my understanding that
they should be set-up with no more than 15% fueling
over the stock nozzles although that may have changed
now. There is a white Chevy Duramax in Rockville, Ind.
with Scheid built injectors for and it is very, very quick!
I rode in it at the Scheid Rally and so did my son.
Here are their numbers if you or Buck are interested:

Scheid Diesel: 1-800-669-1593 (Talk to J.P.)
ATS Diesel: 1-800-949-6002 (Talk to Clint)

Hope this has helped you some.

John_P [/B] call clint yourself and ask if the twins are for sale,il save you the time they are not and also his set up was not practical to run in an every day work enviromesnt b/c the air cleaner is hanging down by the bumper ,i do use my truck to work on the farm, call clint and ask if his larger compressor single turbo is yet available,il save you the time they are not.as for the injectors they are exspensive, very much so however there are 2 issues to be addressed 1 most injectors of this kind even though they can be purchased all the bugs have not been ironed out,to many of them balance way out of wack.2 ther is no proof that has ever been provided that injectors give more hp than can be obtained through optimal programming. every one i know with injects, even the 15 overs have lost hp on diesel only.and only gained a small amount of hp when nitrous is used.also proper programming can over demand the stock oil pump and until somebody comes up with a way to turn this pump up more injects are a big waste of time.most damaxes with injects cant keep a decent rail pressure ie...desired doesnt keep up with commanded.which means the pump is catching it and it isnt good for it either .
as far as nos and twins being the same i never said they were i said that a few years ago people who ran twins were treated like people who ran drugs.and i dont hink it is fair for a twin compounded truck to be in the same class as a single chargered truck.as far as the jetting goes that is true we did continue to add air and fuel but a few of the 12 valvers truned some fuel up themselves.but fact is out of the gates with the first jet sizes we had the the top hp then just added a few more to see how high we could go.i dont know exactly how to make the classes even it was only a suggestion.
as a side point john i thought your truck was the nicest one there it occupies much more video space then any others followed pretty closely by tims.i look forward to the evnt and the offer on the trophy stil stands.hope ths helps

Jess:

I don't want to "debate" this much more here as it is
a thread for the N.C. Dyno and Drag Race. But,..........
it was my understanding Clint was going to try and
market his Duramax Twin Turbo set-up. Maybe the
issue of that filter location precluded that. In your
situation (farming, dusty conditions etc.) maybe
that would not work, but I am here to tell you his
truck ran good! FWIW, the BHAF Clint ran to the
bottom charger was just behind his transfer case
under the truck, not behind the bumper when I
saw it.

I never said "injectors give more H.P. than optimal
programming of fueling boxes." My point to you on
the injectors was to try and let you know they are
out there and of the Duramaxes I rode in that had
them they ran very well! It was Clint who told me
back in May of this year that in his testing he found
that the CR Dodges and Chevy Duramaxes did not
respond well to any injector over about 10-15%
above stock. This was through extensive dyno
testing in his ATS shop in Wheat Ridge of not only
the Duramax but also his gray 2004 Dodge CTD CR.

The common rail fuel systems on the 2004-2005
Dodge CTD CR Trucks and the 2004-2005 Chevy
Duramaxes are very similar Jess. The fuel systems
have to have a "pusher" pump like the Holley Blue
my son Johnner installed on his 2004 Dodge CTD CR.
The difference in pressures??? Without his Holley
Blue his fuel pressure was "0" at WOT with ONLY
the Edge EZ Box! WITH the Holley Blue AND a TST
PM 3 CR stacked with an Edge EZ he has 14-15lbs.
at WOT! We will be glad to show you how we
installed it if you are interested at the rally. However,
you still have the issues with the stock oil pump on
the Duramax which doesn't appear to be an issue
on the Dodge Cummins CR Engine.

The last point is again about the the issue of twin
turbos vs. single charger diesels. While I would
agree that it is unfair to run them "heads up"
H.P. to H.P. on #2 diesel ALONE, I feel that it
is also unfair to the twin charger trucks to have
to compete with a single charger PLUS nitrous
and propane like you run when you can stand
there with your plastic bag of jets and just keep
"ramping up" the H.P. with jet after jet of NOS and
more propane gas! Sorry, but that is how I feel
about it. No offense to you or your brother, just
my .02 cents! ;) Lets see what the other members
think and we can decide from there. The classes
are a good idea though and seemed to work well
at "Fall Brawl."

john the turbos are not released, hoped to have one of clints for the dyno day but it sure doesnt look good.i have a pusher pump on my dmax as well but the pressure i was talking about was in mpas which is a measure of psi in the rails actual verses desired, programming alone can overload this even with a pusher installed.,,,in which a difference of several thousand psi can be seen.i also agree that double drugs is to much to put in the class with the the twin charger dodges, thats why i suggestd only running one power adder, nos which only adds air tot he mix not fuel.i think bottom line is is that we all are very competeive and we want the playing field to be level.i can agree to disagree it was just a suggestion on my behalf.you guys decide what you want to do and il be there on the 4th and roll with the whatever the masses decide, lets hope we can get close to all agreeing it will make the day much more enjoyable.....tim i cant wait to see the extra hp....see you all there ...til then

You can run your BLUE truck against my BLUE truck.
Heads up racing I think you will have me. I loose my boost each shift, all you do is hold it to the floor.

Geoffrey has been tasked by his mother to run her truck in this event. I have been tasked with taping as much as I can so I can send a CD of the event to her.
I raced Geoffrey off a light and the 04 3500 holds her own until I get in 4 or 5th gear then I take over. My truck is limited by me I can not shift fast enough.

I am still looking into pulling the goose nck down the track with a Farmall super M on it just to see what it will do. My truck runs better when it has something behind it. The combined weight will be close to 19,000 lbs.
I still need to talk to the race track about that.

2 MODIFIFIED
3 MODIFIFIED/W FUEL ADDITIONAL SOURCES

5 RUN WHAT YOU BRUNG

So far two of the above 5 trophies have been locked on.

and i dont hink it is fair for a twin compounded truck to be in the same class as a single chargered truck

Why? Sorry, but when properly setup a single w/ N20 will always out-dyno a twin chargered truck. A 24V Dodge struggles to get over 650 HP with twins, but there are quite a few over that on the bottle. I don't consider nitrous cheating (in fact, DHRA rules allow singles w/ NOS vs. twins), but the fact remains they will usually dyno higher. Most guys just like twins because of the driveability and "always there" power.

Dennis,

I can give you a hand w/ the injector swap if you'd like....

STOCK- This class is limited as in the years past to the following mods, air intakes and aftermarket exhausts.NOTHING ELSE!.I am going to try and figure a way to make all the years competitive with each other as the newer common rail injection trucks have way more HP than the older rides. Those caught with other unapproved mods in this class will forfeit any chance of winning anything. Please be honest owners, this is a fun show and I'd like to keep it that way.

MODIFIED-This class is limited to a SINGLE turbo with NO PUMP CONVERSIONS(example:A 24 Valve single turbo truck with a P-Pump installed)and on #2 ONLY.The use of over the counter fuel additives is permitted but NO DRUGS(this includes meth injection and water misters).Aftermarket chargers, fueling boxes, injectors and pusher pumps are all legal.Owners who run single chargers and use drugs may compete as long as their bottle has been disconnected or removed, these owners will be asked to show they did this when they enter the dyno room.

COMPETITION-This class will allow any fuel pump combination(example:P-Pump conversions),any charger(twins included) or supercharger and run on #2 alone.Over the counter fuel additves permitted but NO DRUGS(this includes meth injection and water misters).Any injector, fueling box, aftermarket turbos(twins permitted) and pusher pumps are ok.Owners who have drugs may compete but must disconnect their bottles or tanks and will be asked to show this when they enter the dyno room.

UMLIMITED-Run What Ya Brung...This is the "Don't Bring A Knife To A Gunfight Class".
Any fuel, charger configuration any amount of drugs can be used here. The only rule here is the HOOD MUST close and latch tightly. This is for safety reasons as we have seen the aftermath of a head-gasket explosion with the hood open.

The information above I pulled from tha FALL BRAWL post. Hammer and JetPilot came up with that and it semed to work well.
I think it is a better than the classes that I had written down.

Remember this is meant to be a fun event to get together and shoot the bull and have a good time.

Hope this clears up the mess I made.

John i dont think it is fair for a single chargered truck with out nos to have to compete in the same class as a twin powered truck, just like i dont feel like it would be fair for twins to have to run against a truck running lp and nos together.i also new aboput the dhra nos and twin deal.my whole point is to try and amke the classes as even as possible so all makes have a good chance at competting.

Much better mood tonight. I should go back and delete the post from the other night. Sorry About That:eek: [tapdshut] [rant]

Dose the way Fall Brawl ran the event make sense. I already know that not everyone will be happy.
single chargers are a different class from dual chargers.
NOS and propane will be in their own class. Folks that run drugs can if they want run in the other two classes if they wish as long as the bottles are unhooked or turned off. The stock folks will be together.
I was out at the local mudd bog tonight talking up the event there was allot of interest.

Dennis shoot me a e mail at cdubie@ec.rr.com I tried to sent you the flyer and it came back undeliverable.
So are you interested in the slightly used sent of DDIIs??
You thought that the EZ box woke your truck up try the DDIIs  :D. Let me know and I bring them to the event.

I will be leaving for Washington State around noon on the 21st. I will be back on the evening of the 24th. If the trophy issuse is not handled by then I will go take care of that on the 26th.
I hope the wheather holds for a couple of more weeks it was above 70 degrees here today.

Hello

I went to the local mud bog yesterday, they had some of the rail cars there with blowers and NOS. Pretty good time. Didn't mean to gaff you off. I also believe that shutting off the valve will be just fine.

Let's get back to making this a good time event .

I still need to PM Hammer and talk to him about how they converted the stock trucks HP from the different years to get them a even playing fields.

Yes that is the plan run the trucks in what ever order they come through the door. I hope to have a dry erase board with the names and classes and what the HP/Torq. That is how we will keep track of who run what.

I got to get moving I still have to throw clothes in a case and tie up a few loose ends and hit the door

Hello all
The trophies for the dyno are taken care of, there will be one for "stock highest HP", one for "modified highest HP", one for "competition highest HP" and one for "unlimited highest HP".
This takes care of the dyno day trophies. They will be ready for pick up on the 3 of Dec.

King D
Are you bringing trophies for the fastest trucks?

I will be bringing a big grill for those of you that want to grill up some meat or road kill. I am thinking about making a crook pot full of chili.
I will be bringing a white board to write the class HP/Torq and names down on.

This event is for everybody with a truck, so if you have a gas burner you can run if you want to see what sort of numbers you have. All are welcome. My son has a Ford ranger that he will be running on the dyno. He wanted to race it, but his mother asked him if he would race her truck. He was all :D :D after that.

See Ya

Hello
Tim I am hoping that next weekend will be like this one was.
Today I was working in the yard with a tee shirt and jeans. they are calling for rain tonight, we'll see.
I hope to pull out some bushes tomarrow if the super M won't do it then I will use my truck and BLOW some smoke and get them out one way or another.
Looking forward to talking to you about BOMBing a transmission in a 3rd gen.:D I want to beef up the trans. in Leigh Ann's 3500 so I can add some more HP/Torq. Looking for another 100/or so Hp and as much Torque as I can get. I want to get the 04 to pull like my 01 does. Once I get the 04 to pull like my 01 then I can start getting crazy with my 01

According to the Weather Channel (which is ALWAYS right  ) it is supposed to rain Wednesday, be clear Thursday through Saturday, and cloudy on Sunday. 10% chance of rain on Saturday, 30% on Sunday. NOAA is showing 0% Thursday through Saturday, 10% Saturday night, 14% on Sunday, and 30% Sunday night. Temps are looking to be in the upper 50s - Lower 60s and Lows in the upper 30s. As long as the rain holds off the track should be open Sunday for regular Test & Tune.

I have the WinPep 7 software up and running{I think} so we'll be able to see all the way to 1500 hp and tq. now. I do want to try 1 truck both ways to see if there is a difference in the power that is shown.

I forced myself to go to HOOTERS tonight for dinner[whistle] [whistle] I talked to the young lady who brought out the wings and asked when do they start getting busy on a Friday night. She replied that 6:45/7:15 anytime after that you may have a wait.

How do the other shops deal with the smoke???

Your times for dinner at "Hooters" on Friday night sounds
good; 6:00-6:30 P.M. We will be there!! I told Dennis I
would contact him at the campground on Friday and Tim
said he will call me via cellphone when he gets in. So,....
lets plan on everybody meeting there!

-----------
Wayne:

You asked about how the other shops remove all the
diesel smoke/soot. ATS Diesel Performance (Denver, Colo.)
and TST Products (Colombus, Ind.) have pretty elaborate
smoke removal systems routing the smoke through actual
metal duct work and then to an exhaust fan outside the
building. I have to wonder what that would cost though!!:o
You can call Clint Cannon at ATS (1-800-949-6002) or Mark
Chapple @ TST (812) 342-6741 and I know they would be
glad to give you details on their systems. One thing I really
like is the fact that my two diesel trucks don't put out much
black smoke!![laugh]

Did you put some sort of industrial cleaner/scrubber on your exhaust tips? :D
Just like the big stacks at major companies that produce lots of emissions in the form of smoke, their stacks have the systems that keep the harmful things out of the atmosphere.

I think Tom was refering to the "air and exhaust scrubbers" like we use on the smoke stacks and fume removal stacks at the plant where I work. Ya know,,, the filtering-like-thingies that take all the particles and yucky stuff and turn it into colorless, oderless, make the tree-huggers smile "Happy Air". [laugh]

Well, the Second Annual N.C. Dyno and Drag Race was a great
event! I know that I certainly had a good time and it was great
to see everyone again and to meet some of the new faces!!
I want to sincerely thank everyone who attended the event
this year and most of all to the guys and gals that came from
out of state, like our fellow DTR group from Virginia!! My thanks
to Wayne Murphy @ "Waynes Dyno and Performance" for
hosting the dyno event and putting up with all the black
smoke,.......ESPECIALLY from our own Tim Barber (Timinva)
who singlehandedly COMPLETELY "blacked out" Waynes
garage with his DonM "Mach 7" EDM Injectors!!!:o It looked
like the building was on fire!!! Thanks also to "Coastal Plains
Raceway" for sponsoring our drag race event today.

Listed are other sponsors and individuals who really helped
make our event a success:

My "partner" Chris Dubie (Thanks Chris for all your help!)
Jess Spruill/Steve Swain (For expenses of trophies)
Robby Yates @ "National Dodge" (For expenses of trophies)
Sanders Ford
Wayne Murphy (Waynes Dyno and Performance)
Coastal Plains Dragway
Tom Goodall (For all the help in recording the dyno numbers)
Thanks Tom!!

Trophies were awarded for high H.P. (dyno) in the following
classes:

STOCK: Rick Dusch 2004 Dodge CTD CR 262 HP/486 TQ

MODIFIED: Buck Spruill 2003 Chevy Duramax 477HP/931 TQ

COMPETITION: Tim Barber 00' Dodge CTD 588HP/1056TQ

UNLIMITED: Buck Spruill 2003 Chevy Duramax 711HP/1238TQ

Congratulations to all the high H.P. dyno winners!
To "break this up" I will post all the dyno numbers on another
post.

Today, we awarded "Lowest E.T. Awards" and "Bracket Racing
Champ" to the following members:

1.) Lowest E.T.-Ford Powerstroke: Jess Spruill
2.) Lowest E.T.-Chevy Duramax: Buck Spruill (11.58@ 118 MPH)
3.) Lowest E.T.-Dodge Cummins Diesel: Tim Barber (13.1 @ 90MPH) Note: Tim let off the gas before he reached the traps![laugh]
4.) Bracket Racing Champ-Geoffery Dubie

My congratulations to all these winners! I did not get all the
times here, so if you guys can post your times that would be
great.

Again, thanks to everyone! One last note,...........we all missed
Chris Dubies' wife (Leigh) very much this year! As most of you
know she is in Iraq with the U.S. Marine Corps and our thoughts
and prayers are with you Leigh!! Our thanks to you and ALL the
troops who are doing an excellent job over there!! See you
soon Leigh!!

If I forgot anybody or missed anything I apologize!

I think a great big thanks should go out to John Porterfield for his efforts as well :) :)

I enjoyed working on this with you, now we need to work on making next year even better. Let's see here how the weekend went.
Hooters on Friday with much BS ing with the fellas.
Dyno runs on Sat with even more BS ing.
Racing on Sun with even more BS ing ( the fields around the drag strip should grow like crazy next year)[laugh] [eyecrazy] [laugh]

I second all of what John said above. I think everyone had a great time, the temps where in the 60/70s so it was great.

I think RickD has a 05 vice a 04 truck.

We had the fastest running Duramaxes on the EAST coast run at this event. Let me set the stage
Ford lighting running mid and lower 13 all day.
Buck ( The Duramax) dials the same time as the lighting. They both take off, the lighting looked slow. He did not even come close to keeping up with the Chevy. The Duramax ran a 11.58 :o :o . I have seen this truck run a few time before and knew it was fast, so I enjoyed listening to the fans standing around that could not believe that a "smelly noisey Diesel beat a lighting that bad. [laugh] [laugh]
Thanks everyone I hope you had as good a time as I did. Of Course watching my son doing burn outs in the water trap with his Mommies dualie and then going on to the finals had alot to do with it.
Dennis
Are you still smiling?? how did the DDIIs do on the pull home?

This event went very well thanks to John and Chris and the many others who helped out. I was very pleased with the dyno event, the first time I was on a dyno, Dec 2003, with stock set up I showed 152 and the rear wheels. After a reflash on the software, I ended up with a 196. Not to bad for an SO truck.
It is amazing what you learn at one of these get togethers, plus seeing the trucks put the numbers up makes one want to bomb some more and hanging out with the Porterfields and the Dubies makes one want to make their trucks smoke, but not like Tim's. I think I still have the smell in my nose, but what a site. You couldn't see day light through the cloud of soot. I just wish I would have had a camera.

Again thanks for putting on one heck of an event, I know the locals like seeing the "Big Trucks" run off the loud imports at the track.

Thanks to everyone for putting on such a great event. We were blessed with good weather this year. Remember last year? I think a good time was had by all. Heck, I even bettered my best time last year by 3/10ths of a second, even with the clutch slipping and the extra 1000 lbs. on the back end. Maybe by next year I'll have a new clutch and hopefull sneak another mod past the wife and get under 17 seconds. Well, maybe not, but it doesn't hurt to dream.

After Christmas and New Years, how does everyone feel about a get together in Smithfield to eat and BS while the wives shop till they drop?

We had a great time. Finally got home around 9pm last night. Interesting trip back though. My external wastegate started working fine about 10 miles outside Jacksonville but I forgot I had a zip tie holding the boot on the air horn. So I went out to pass some one and at 30 lbs of boost the zip tie broke, that will wake you up from a slumber. Then about a hour from home one of my converter bolts came loose causing a god awfull noise. But all is fixed now. Looking forward to next year already. That 13.1 run was at only 80 mph as I was on the brakes looking for the turn off. I will know next time. I actually was going 85 mph in the 1/8 mile point and only 80 at the 1/4 mile mark so you do the math. Plus the comp was on 3/3 not 5/5. Will be low 12s or better next time I try. No problems,,,,, just hard to get in a hurry going home. Truck pulled the 5er like a dream and I didn't see any more smoke out of it with the DDII's than I did before.,,,,,,, well,,,,, I didn't look that close. (Big THANKS to Tim and Johnner for doing the install. Just a thought but I would like to see that high HP Chevy hook up to a pulling sled. Dyno, racing and sled pulling?????????? Maybe
I see new clutchand a bigger set of injectors and maybe something else Oh yeah
It was great seeing every one and metting new folks.
I had a great weekend and hope you did as well.

Rattlin I was praying to the gods of toilet water. My school has had a terrible virus in the past two weeks. Kids are out for 4 to 6 days with it. So I ended up with it on Thursday morning, and did not feel like living until Saturday afternoon.

Wish I could have been there. On a good not I was glad to see that all who attended had a great time. Thanks for the Invite fellas.

I just wanted to tell you when you put the heatshield on take a large rubber cap, about 3/8 dia and put it on top of your shock, it will keep it from RATTLIN[laugh] [laugh] [laugh] When I get some more made (thicker ones) I'll send you a new one up. By the way the studs in your fenderwell for the HS are the same size as the screws in my AFC houseing (6x10mm) Hey check out my Profile and see what we have in common.

Keep in touch.

Looks like all had fun and enjoyed the event, sorry I missed it.Chris,I guess the numbers were ok since I didn't get any calls?.I can't believe all you big HP guys got outbracket raced by a 73hp Ranger, whats up with that.Hmmmm, sounds like maybe some lessons on how to NOT run out are in order,LOL :D [laugh] .

While we are at it all the numbers look very impressive and a D-Max with huge amounts of juice over 700,I am impressed.Whats up with JP not posting the Red Rockets numbers for us to see, stealth mode???.Good thing the phone rang and I got it anyway,LOL.

dynoman...
Having a exhaust problem sucks and makes a HUGE mess of the dyno shop walls along with all who are inside. After our show up here it took me two weeks of being sick to get my lungs cleared out and the shop we roll at has a very elaborate exhaust system.Ernie had his engineer there on Sundy of our show so he could see first hand what we did so they could devise a way to dyno the trucks equipped with stacks.Well since then the amount to build a second system for the "stack only" guys was deemed outrageous, with good measure.

What Kauffmans does is use a long piece of 5" flex pipe and slips a piece of nomex over the ehaust tips to which they slide the pipe on it,routed outside. They have a small strap on it and attach it to the underside of the truck and may at times even have to hold the pipe in place for the higher HP trucks. The majority of the smoke in that configuration, about 90% of it,goes to the outside to the rear, the rest is exhausted thru the roof via Ernies huge ceiling fan.I'll try and find a pic or two for you and put it here tommorrow. If you have any questions feel free to PM me.

Chris...
Let me know if you would like a hand setting this up next year and I'll make myself available......Andy

Andy:

Thanks for the input! I know Wayne will appreciate it. You asked about the "Red
Ram's" numbers. I blew the base gasket out at the manifold for the external
exhaust wastegate on Friday. But, I did run earlier last week on a Mustang
MD-750 Dyno @ "AutoFX Motorsports" in Wilmington and put down 674 H.P.
(uncorrected). It will get better,......we have some more "tuning" to do.

Have a great Christmas Andy!;)

Andy, any pointers you can give me would be greatly appreciated. I knew I could get a flex pipe to channel the exhaust out but I also knew it would stratch the tips. The nomex is a good idea and it will be used. Thank You for the tip. The cleaning continues:(

Hello

Andy
Thanks for all the information. Geoffrey (my son) was racing his mom's truck, he was running 16.1/16.4 pretty much every run he made. Leigh Ann is still over in Iraq.

We had a pretty good turn out and a good time was had by all. Yes we plan on haveing this again next year. Any pointers and lessons learned would be great. One day it may be as big a event as the FALL BRAWL. Thanks for the help this year.

The Chevy's put on quite a show bot5h at the dyno and at the drag way.:D Maybe next year.

See Ya
Chris

Don't let Chris play it down... he was knocking those times out. How about a 16.012 on a 16.00 dial in :o

I think Geoffrey was hitting the "Resume" button on the cruise control every time the light went green because I think he had about three runs in the 16.0's! [laugh]
,,,,,,,,,,,, Oh yeah,,,,,,, If it wasn't bad enough that Johnner smoked me with the 6 speed in the "heads up test & tune" this year,,,,,,,,,,,,, he turned around and run me down with his Dad's truck in eliminations. [laugh] I was still happy with the way the "Cute Little Blue Truck" ran. :D

We still need anyone who took pics of those two days to post them in the Gallery under
DTR Chapters >> NC Dyno & Drags (http://www.dieseltruckresource.com/pics/showgallery.php/cat/531/password/)
