2500 16" Wheels
Does anyone know the weight of the aluminum wheels 16" wheels that came on the later 2nd gens? How about the weight of the stock chrome wheels?
I know that they are wider with a different offset, but does anyone know the specs on the width/offset?
Will they bolt to a '94 2wd 2500 that has the chrome 16" wheels or is there any clearance issues?

only input I have is the 16 alloys are know to crack on the inside bead, I had 2 that were cracked edventually I replaced them with 3rd gen rims. salvage yards charge a preimum for 16alloy, (like 200$ each) if you do get some pay close attention to the inside bead

The one's on mine are 16x8. I don't the offset though. I haven't tried it, but I was told they wouldn't fit on a 99. I don't know about a 94. I would guess about 15 lbs. I just junked one of mine that was cracked on the inside, didn't look at the scale when they weighed it at the recycle place though.

I would avoid them I wound up replacement all my wheels to steel wheels after I cracked one bouncing though the rocks building fence last summer. I broke the seconded one hauling a load of yearling steers to the sale from too much weight there junk in my opinion.

Bummer to hear that they are that prone to cracking. I just wanted to save a little weight, and preferred the slight "poke" that they have over the steel chrome wheels due to the offset. I'm not a fan of 3rd gen and aftermarket wheels, so I guess I'll stay on the chrome steel wheels until I find something to my liking.

like the others I too broke one but by snowplowing, but here in PA the roads are the worst I have ever seen so that MAY have something to do with it, my replacement and the other 3 have been fine. also I see a set of 16's in the classifieds and on ebay all the time.

That's interesting. I was told they wouldn't clear the steering knuckle on the front end...
Next time I go visit my old man, maybe I'll give em a try, find out for sure...

The "crackers" were caused by a poor alloy mix that was supposedly cleared up by 01. There's a list of part numbers and dates to avoid on one of the supplemental pages to this site IIRC. The info is on the inner side of the wheel and pretty easy to read.
They don't clear the rear drums on the earlier trucks, however you can turn a bit off the outside of the brake drums and they will clear. Hadn't ever heard of the steering knuckle clearance issue.
Got my 3rd gen 17" alloys for 50 bucks apiece out here.

1994-2002 2500 2WD/4WD Steel Wheels:
Rear: Have a machine shop turn the widest part of the brake drum down by about 1/8.
Front: If clearance is a problem, grind the steering components just enough to clear the wheel rim. The tie rod ends may need to be lightly touched with a peanut grinder. Make sure the front wheels are pushed all the way back to the rotor, or you could cinch up the lugs and bind the wheel in a bind/angle= wobbly wheel. It is a very close tolerance at the center circle in the wheel in front, but the wheels will fit.
Lug Pattern - 8 on 6.5", 9/16" bolt
Rim Size - 16x6.5"
Offset - 4.75"
2000-2002 2500 2WD/4WD Forged Aluminum Wheels:Rim Size - 16x6.5"
Offset - 4.75"
Lug Pattern - 8 on 6.5", 9/16" bolt
Rim Size - 16x8"
Offset - 6.25"
Notes from Mike Cash, who installed them on his 1999 2500 4X4 with a V10: These wheels will not easily fit older Rams because the brake drums and steering components will not clear the rim. Rim Size - 16x8"

Do you happen to know where I can find this information? I bought my '02 on March 6th, and it has the 3rd Gen 17" x 8" alloy wheels. I want to go back to the 2nd Gen 16" x 8" alloy wheels so that I can have a larger selection of 285 Load Range E tires to choose from. 16" tires cost less too. I installed the 17" x 8" alloy wheels on my '97, but only so I could run 285's without over ballooning the tire.
