How long of a job is this? I've got 73k on mine and I've been think'n about adjusting the valves. Owners manual say's 140k if I'm not mistaken.

Well, after you wrestle with the valve cover for several hours , the actual adjustment can be done fairly quickly ... 20-30 minutes!

Dealer quoted $300.00 to do the job, that include replacing the VC gasket. That seemed a little excessive.

the VC gasket is pricey, but you wont need to replace it. This was my first time ever doing this and I was done in about 45 min. (well total time after piperca told me how to find BDC) Great project to do your self

I told them the gasket was re-usable and if it does leak its covered under the engine warranty. I just called the local Cummins dealer and there going to do it for $80.00. I told them have at it.
