I originally wanted to know if this could be done. I guess they are both 47RE transmissions so it should be possible.

should be fine there both electronically controlled just like my 97

Have you swapped out yet. I swapped my 2000 47re to one from a 98 in my truck. The only difference between the transmissions was the overdrive solinoid in the valve body. The pcm will not recognize that soliniod, just swap that out and everything else should be golden.

Thanks for the responses. My dad just got his first Cummins with an automatic. Since he's not used to the automatic behind a diesel he's paranoid about the way it acts and just wanted to know if it was going bad it could be swapped for one out of an '01 wreck that he has. I think after getting info from people on this forum I have him convinced that his tranny is acting normal, so no swap in the near future anyhow.
