24 valve turbo on a 12 valve

my friend has a 2002 24 valve he switched the turbo on and said I could have his stock 1. is it the same as my 12 valve 1998 trucks turbo? and will there be any difference?

If it was a manual truck then the turbo would be the same, if it was an automatic it would be the smaller HY35, not a desirable turbo as a performance mod. Grab it if he's giving it away, keep it as a spare.

'89-'91.5 - Small H1C, 3" compressor inlet (non intercooled) 50mm compressor

'91.5-'93 - H1C, 4" compessor inlet (intercooled), 54mm compressor

'94-'95 - WH1C, wastegated 12cm exhaust housing, 56mm compressor

'96-'98 - HX35W, wastegated 12cm, 56mm compressor

'98-'02 (manuals) - HX35W, wastegated 12cm, some 8-blade 56mm compressors, some 7-blade 54mm

'01-'02 (automatics) - HY35W, restrictive 9cm wastegated housing (compressor, don't know)

'03-'04.5 (i think) - HE341W - 9cm wastegated housing, (compressor, don't know)

'04.5-'07 - HE351CW - 9cm wastegated housing, 62mm compressor

'89-'93 turbos have either 18.5cm or 21cm housings. All turbos after '94 will have MWE slots.

Feel free to correct me if I got some of it wrong.

I think you will find the 98 - 2000 Autos were still HX-35W's. The HY-35W (autos only) did not show it's ugly, polution controlling head till 2001.

I can get a garrett T-61 P 1.00 for a fair price should I get it? it has the same euro style turbine inlet and a 4" exhaust discharge flange.
