2013 1/2 Ton Revealed

I watched the unvail of the new 2013 1/2 ton today at NY auto show. I was really excited to see that they are putting a full out air bag suspension front and back. Now I HOPE this will make it into the HD trucks in the future. I have been wondering for years why HD Pick-ups don't have air bags in the back.

Oh yea it will have a 8 speed tranny also, alot of really neat stuff happening. If it all make it to the HD I might actually have a reason to get a new one even if I don't need it.

After seeing my buddy dealing with his Denali air system problems, I reserve judgment on it. It looks like from the photos of the frame that the air compressor is mounted at the rear of the truck on the outside of the frame. Up here in the slush, salt, gravel that might be an issue. The idea is cool enough, just worried about the air bags.

8 speeds? That's overkill unless you're hauling houses IMHO.. Nice enough truck though.

Semi's have been riding on air for years, I would not be worried at all. About time the change was made, I looked at putting air in the back of my 3500 but way to pricy to do it after market.

The 8spd should work well since the Hemi does have a peaky HP/Torque curve.

I'm not against air at all. I'm familiar with air suspensions on OTR trucks but in the case of Cadillac, they cheaped out on the bag quality and they crack and split just as warranty ends and then the added cycling from the air leaks kills the $2500 compressor. IF they install a good heavy bag like the old Firestones or what came on real air bag systems, it should be good to go. When you go mass production, its not necessarily the best bag that gets the install.

Semi's don't have their compressors mounted behind the wheels where road crud will attack it tho.

On the diesels, there's no reason they couldn't run a real compressor off the accessory drive. THEN they'd have a decent set-up.

On the gassers, there is also no good reason they can't run an air compressor off the engine as well.

That is a dumb place for the compressor.

I followed the link, the "buyers tools" drop-down kept coming up, they must be hard-up for pre-orders.

Now, where is the no-frills, bench-seat version? A dial for the gear selection? I can't possibly see anyone going into the wrong gear there.

And what is with every third surface in a truck getting a logo in it? The super doody is the same way. They worried someone is going to steal the panel to use in another brand of truck?
