2008 3500 6.7L Quad Cab

Hi Guys,

New to the dodge forum. Just picked up a new 2008 3500 with the 6.7 in it. Got a smoking deal on it. Single rear wheels on it and 3.73 gears with the 6-speed auto. Never owned a diesel before but I am getting a new 34' gooseneck and needed a new truck to haul it. If anyone can let me know if I should change anything, leave it stock, etc. for pulling and everyday driving please let me know. I would also be interested in hearing what types of gooseneck hitches everyone is using, the under-box one, etc.

Thanks a bunch.

Mike

Hi and welcome to DTR! There are many things you can do to your new truck, but probably the best thing you can do is load that trailer up and haul with it. Haul a bunch!! These trucks seem to do better when loaded down and trucking. As far as a gooseneck hitch, I've tried a couple of different ones and so far my favorite is the one I have right now the B&W turnover hitch.

Not sure where you live, but you might want to think about DPF/EGR cooler deletes. Im lookin into 09s and thats what Ill do. Goosenecks...never had one personally but fro what Ive heard you cant go wrong with a B&W Turnover Ball...

Congrats on the new truck

Another vote for B&W Turnover. I've pulled goosenecks many thousands of miles, and never an issue. Can't beat 'em.

Congrads on your new truck and enjoy the ride.
I would recommend that you read this and the Turbo Diesel Register forums to find out what the DPF and the EGR are.
As far as recommendations as to what to add to your truck they are numerous and you may or may not want to install all of them. Each of us have our own ideas as to what we want on our trucks.
I use mine for daily driving and pulling a 5er during the camping season. I have installed gages and a Mag-Hytec trans pan along with a Rear Diff cover. These were added for additional oil capacity and cooling. Gages were added to check on the EGT, Boost and Trans temp. The rest of my mods are in my sig not required to do but this is what I wanted.

I would say the first thing other than a solid G/N hitch (I like the B&W Turnover Ball) would be to look for the right brake controller. I like the Tekonsha P3. It is a great controller that doesn't need to be mounted horizontally (like the controllers of old) and offers both electric and electric over hydraulic brake system control. I don't know your seat/console configuration, but if it is like the manuals with the mini console, here is where i mounted mine and i think it works perfectly:

Next for me personally would be some gauges to monitor some of the engine parameters. Depending on how deeply you like to look into things, take a look at the Edge Insight and see if it might be right for you. It is a digital monitor that can display up to 7 different parameters on the screen at a time (though i find any more than 4 and the numbers get too small to read easily while driving down the road) and gives you all kinds of things to monitor (such as boost, EGT, transmission temp, intake air temp, engine load %, fuel rail pressure, etc). An all-in-one like this can save you a ton of money on gauges if you like to monitor a variety of things.
