Question 2007 6.7 questions / help

I am new to this board and new to the 6.7. I just purchased a 2007 dodge 3500 with the 6.7 and a 6 speed. I am excited as I had a 1999 2500 5 speed and loved it. Now I am not sure after reading some of the posts. The truck has 12,000 miles on it and ran great the 200 miles home. Now I am worried when I see all the talk of poor mileage and emissions problems. I did not buy it from a dodge dealer, should I be taking it to one, are there updates or recalls I need to be aware of? Any help at all is truly appreciated.
thanks in advance!

p.s i get 16mpg in town and 20+on highway.dont be afraid to rod that thing had to change driving habbits, dont shift to soon take up to 2300 to 2500 rpm before shifting drive around town that way it really helps run allot cleaner, and you wont get as much soot build up in turbo .

Im going on 10.5k on my 07. So far so good. Never a cel exept when I unplug the egr. If you look on your radiator support, you may see an update tag for the ecm noting any changes/flashes that have been done. However not having a tag does not mean it has not been updated. Just a good clue that it has not been updated if the tag is not there. Be sure to get that thing on the highway as much as you can and work it when you get the chance to. Your truck will appreciate it and will keep it from regen mode more so than local short distance trips, which is where most people seem to lose there miliage. Use your e-brake as much as possible. It will help prevent the sooting of the turbo. Enjoy your new truck and dont let the negative comments get to you. These trucks, just like the rest of the big 3 diesels, are a different animal from previous years. The new emmisions requirments are the culprit of most issues with the new diesel trucks regardless of which brand you buy. Read through this site as there is a lot of info.

You will read a lot of negative issue from some of the members. Most of the members only will report issues from their trucks if there is a problem. Than some of us without issues will not state how great they are, have you read any feel good stories on a 6.7L truck.
I had read a very good article from "TDR" on why the 6.7L will have poor mileage then an older truck. A few of the points made were (these are for stock trucks). 1. 350HP/650LB-FT of Torque 2. Truck weight in execcus of 8500LBS 3. Keeping your foot out of the throttle, ie using the hp of the engine. 3.The front end area size of the truck 4. The truck complies with the 2010 emission regs.
The trucks were new to the market and the trucks can not be driven like the older trucks and there was a steep learning curve on these trucks. Which most of us have learned, such as keeping the rpms above 1500 when city driving. I used the auto gear selector to match the engine rpm with the gear of the trans, trying to stay in the 1800 rpm range and the exhaust brake on so the engine will not soot up.
So enjoy your truck and keep reading the forums and learn all you can.
I have 15K on my truck which was purchased new in Nov 2007 to pull my 5er and I love the exhaust brake along with the 68rfe transmission. I agree fuel mileage could be better but the mileage is better than my 2001 6L 2500HD auto Chevy with or with out the trailer.

Jim W said it...more often then not you will read about 'issues' or problems. Which is a good thing if someone is in need of some help.

I currently have 116,000 miles on my 07.5. I did what I needed to do to improve mpg with altering the emissions equipment and the insides of my engine is clean now. Even the tail pipe is clean. So whatever the smog stuff is controlling, it sure is hitting the potential for better mpg because I have improved my mpg loaded and empty by 42%!!!
This is just my opinion; if I can save that much non renewable resources, I will do it. Not only do I burn less fossil fuel, I save money and the engine is running cleaner. I bought the truck to work hard and understand that its a big heavy truck. Improving on it is what I like to do as a hobby. So far so good and not one warranty issue...besides, my warranty was toast the moment I imported this truck to Canada.

I like this truck more and more.

Thannks for all the information. I bought the truck to pull trailers (horse trailers). I very rarely drive it around town unless the weather is too bad to get around with my little car. The driving hints will definitely help. Any other suggestions / information is welcome.

thanks again,
