2006 Automatic

This is quoted froum the "2006 Ram" brochure, Wounder if it's mostly hype or have they really upgraded it?

"Dodge 48RE four-speed automatic transmission is the ideal choice: Count on ultra-strong planetary carriers-recently upgraded to a six-pinion design. There's high converter clutch pressure and capacity, with added capacity on all clutches and bands. This transmission can now engage the converter clutch in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gears, and a revised hydraulic pump offers 15 percent greater flow capacity over previous models."

Sound Good for stock applications.

Yup the 06 48re is the best auto Dodge has put in to date. It does have all these features. Plus it has tow haul, which raises shift points and gives you downhill torque converter lockup for downhill motor brakeing,( which makes it compatable for exhaust brake), and it has 4th gear lockout.

unlike older trannies, these have 3 modes....

1. regular operation
2. tow/haul 1 click of the button
3. and full OD lockout 2 clicks

There are a few more goodies on these new trucks.....

I went out the other day to swiss cheese my airbox and remove the inlet tube

There is no inlet tube....Just a HUGE hole on the fender side...

This thing is getting all the air it needs, minus a high-flow filter....

PG7 drop in and home made torque tube looks better and better...Still worried about oil though

Man I'm tickled to death with this new truck

O.K. Is your truck a short bed?
I'm ready to order mine tomorrow. 2006' Ram 3500 larmie QC, 4x4,SWB, 3:73 antispin, 48RE, Jacobs exhaust brake. I know I'll have to wait a while to get it but it will be the way I want it. Dealer is saying 6 to 8 wks. Hope by Christmas. "Just like being a kid again."

Fronty--not partical to red but, In real life, this red looks better than most others, IMO.
I have a Black Laramie due in, end of month, finally, initially ordered Mar 05!!!! thats another story, but D/C made good and gave me all the 05 rebates on this 06. I've had a 06 at the house for a few hours, many scuttle improvements. Super quiet cab compared to even last year. Little or no, low RPM vibrations. Plus, improved fuel mileage over last year (hope thats reality).

I think its Terrible that it took DC this long to make a proper transmission to put behind the CTD. My 94 Toyota V-6 has had both of these features since 94 and it takes DC until now to build it this way

Its only on the 05s that DC screwd up , the 04s and back had 4th gear lockout. Worked OK, the cummins really didnt need the tow haul or raised shift points. In 05 they droped the 4th lockout and put in the raised shift points. 06 they added the 4th lockout back in .

The 05's also have all these new features. they just dont have the programing for the 4th gear lockout but they are capable of it.

Well I'm telling you theres a lot of 05 owners that would pay to have the 4th gear lockout put in there trucks. If there capable of it ,there doesnt seem to be anybody smart enough to do it.

It will happen. You'll be able to get your ECM reprogrammed to 06 specs. It's just going to take awhile.

Keep complaining to the dealers so they can feed it back to the motherland.
