2005 izuzu cabover diesel

I got a buddy who is looking to buy one for his video production company. It would end up sitting a fair amount, even in the winter, with the only opportunity to plug it in being about 30 minutes to an hour before he needs to go. If he has a block heater, oil pan heater and battery heater and keeps some good anti gel treatment in there, do you think it will be OK and not leave him stranded in the mornings?

I don't know much about the truck, so don't know what sort of oil it calls for but am assuming putting something like 5w40 in there would help out too, right?

any advice would be appreciated!

I don't know how those engines specifically are for starting, but generally speaking, an hour with the block heater plugged in makes a huge difference. Often, that is all I would do too. I would imagine that using 5w40 (if recommended) would help too, as would a winter front and a large battery in good condition. I would also consider keeping a battery tender permanently mounted under the hood to keep the voltage up overnight.

Tell him to run, RUN as fast as he can!! We had an 05 that was horrible. Spent more time in the shop than on the road. Though it did get great fuel millage while being towed

thanks for the input.

Run, eh? have you heard many other stories like yours? there are a couple other companies that have had theirs since 98 (brand new) that have had no major issues, at least, as far as I know.

his other option was a powerstroke, and I just barely convinced him not to go that route!

Hahaha, yeah, but when you are carrying hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of equipment, I don't think you need guts, just the ability to get from point A to point B!
