2005 2500 5.9 Water Pump Removal

We're new to this forum and have enjoyed the reading so far. We have to replace the water pump on our 2005 and wanted to know once the pump is loose, will it drop out the bottom or does it need to exit from the air cleaner direction? What size sockets and wrenches?

Thanks,

2- 10mm bolts and it comes right out. easiest water pump you will ever do. It is o-ring sealed.

The pump utilizes 2 - 10 mm bolts. The housing to block surfaces are sealed with an o-ring that comes with the new pump. Make sure to install the new pump with the weephole facing toward the ground. Once the new pump is on and the bolts are snug, torque the bolts to 18ft.lbs.

Thanks for the information. We look at countless engines daily, work for DTNA, Daimler Trucks, Freightliner, but don't work on them there. Just own a 2500 with the Cummins. This is our 3rd, 2001, 2003 and the 05. All have been great and this is the first repair I have had to deal with other than brakes, fluid changes.

PS: We have, DTNA, 9 07 emmission ISl 400HP engines, new on skids that are excess. New cost is $16k, We are moving these for .50 on the dollar if somone would take all 9.

If that truck is under 100k miles, you can have it replaced under warranty. If it is over 5yrs or 70K, then there is a $100 deductible.

I have schematics if you need them. PM me, and I'll send them over.

Thanks for all the advice and input. Changed the pump last night and refilled with Zerex G05. Ran about 100 miles today and no problems..
