2004 Which auto tranny
Ive got a friend that is looking at buying an 04 with 23000 miles. I told him that the 48re seems to be a better tranny is there anyway to tell which one it is. I was under it today, and it has a cat so im thinking its maybe a 600 or an 04.5 but im still not sure if that will tell which tranny it has. Anyone know? Thanks Joel

The 48 was supposed to be & IS a better tranny than the 47 which had numerous failures in my neck of the woods on guys w/big gooseneck cattle
trailers. The torque converter is the weak link in the 48. Anything much past
100 hp over stock on it & you'll need a torque converter & valve body upgrade.

also look at the passenger side firewall, if the is no Powertrain Control Module there, It has the 48RE
