2004 real crew cabs

Was at a rodeo this weekend and was talking to the Dodge rodeo rep and he was telling me that in mid 04 that dodge was going to change truck frames and offer another diesel choice. He said that it will probably be on a frieghtliner frame and offer either a mercedes diesel or the ctd. It should also be a real crew cab.

Re:2004 real crew cabs

I'd be willing to trade the Excursion in for a CTD-powered true 4-door. Any rumors on a full-size SUV with a CTD?

Quote from Boldts Wagon:

"Maybe this is the rumored 4500 and 5500"

Yes that is exactly what it is. This guy obviously had his facts messed up. It is the Dodge medium duty project that is going to share Chassis with freightliner. Not the Ram pick-ups. Because they would not spend the billions of dollars they spent on designing and building the 03' Ram HD only to keep it a year and a half and then replace it. That guy at the display didn't have his stuff straight. I have gone to Dodge school with some of those guys before, and they are not all the brightest in the bunch. : :P

Re:2004 real crew cabs

I actually had one of those C4500's. It was a good truck, but the Duramax wasn't quite enough engine for what we were doing. I had the 4.30 rear axle ratio in mine, but with the taller 19.5" tires and 25k behind er, she didnot like to hold overdrive at all. If I was to get another one(which is a possibility) I would get the 4.44 or 4.88 rear axle ratio and that should solve the problems. With the right bed those trucks look decent. We had a pretty fancy bed on ours. They are easy to drive. My wife even drove it a lot. Except she said she felt funny driving it becasue people would stare at her going down the road. I guess she did look out of place, a little 120lb 25 year old girl driving something like that Mine had the factory air ride seats and factory exhaust brake. The ride was pretty poor. If I got another one it would go to Jeff Keldermann and get full front and rear air ride installed.

I didnt know they had 4.44's.
I thought they only had 4.11,4.30,4.56,4.88 etc. ???

Re:2004 real crew cabs

4.44's are an option if you get the 17,500 GVW instead of the 16k. It has to do with the rear axle, the bigger rear axle of the 17.5k has different gear options.

Re:2004 real crew cabs

Does anybody really know the reason that daimler chrysler wont give us the full size crew? They have to know it would increase their profits so I just wonder what the underlying problem with them is.
