Hi all new here i posted on another site but have not got the answer i am looking for yet maybe someone here can help me..i have a new to me (and i am new to the diesel world) 2004 ram 3500 4x4 4door automatic it does have the 305hp motor vin#3D7MU48CX4G169848 i have herd things about lift pumps fuel pumps going out injectors going out..so what do i need to to to this truck to make it reliable...
i bought it with 67,000 miles on it has 68,xxx now it it has a high rise red banks horn thingy on it a banks six gun,A-pillar gauges thats all the mods i can see that have been done to it..i love it like it is i need it to be RELIABLE for me if i need the Airdog /FASS thing i do not mind spending the money now instead of getting stranded somewhere and having to fork over a tow bill and other bills then..
I am not sure if this year truck needs Airdog or Fass or anything for that matter any help with this would be great thank you..

Hi, My 2004 2500 325 HO has 230,000 miles on it. I would recommend that you just do the PM's like Dodge says, like changing your fuel filter about every 14 to 15,000 miles and keep a clean air filter in it and of course oil. You should be fine if the truck was taken care of before you got it.

I'm not one of the 30 but if you're concerned, check for the fuel pump mounted on the fuel filter canister (factory) as it is the weak point in the fuel system. If it was changed by Dodge, it went to in-tank and all things considered, should work fine. Other than that, read the content here on the site and make your own decisions about what you want to add. My 03 is great being just stock with no issues to 120K miles, so far.

Personally, I believe stock is the best reliability condition.

Put a 2 or 3 micron fuel filter on it like a FASS system. It will help your fuel system immensely.

Take it to a good diesel shop. They can tell you if there are other mods and if you should do any thing else to back up what you have now, but don't let them sell you on stuff. Good luck

For best reliability, I'd run stock power.

Adding a 2 micron fuel filter isn't a bad idea either (I did).

Otherwise, buy clean fuel at a reputable high volume station, and fleetguard filter and good oil.

I have 264,000 miles on my 04. Lost my stock LP at 128,000 miles. Lost the in tank replacement 91,000 miles later.....went to a FASS. Everything else has been fine.

Stock is the best way to go longevity wise - with the fuel system upgraes mentioned.

A little maintenance goes a long way on thse things.

If you looking for realibility, I would stay stock (maybe buy a second lift pump as a spare). But in all honesty, I brought this up a while back and after ALOT of input. I came to the conclusion that any electrical aftermarket pump was no more realiable then the factory ones. If I was looking for a aftermarket alternative it would be a mechanical belt driven pump. But there are alot of trucks on the road today with tons of miles and factory pumps.

The stock fuel pump beside the fuel filter goes out some at 60.000 and some at 200.000 You can by the stock for 179.00 at GENO'S if you still have the stock one get 2 from GENO'S and put them under your back seat.GOOD to go. IF you do not use them let them go with the truck when you get rid of it. === GOOD LUCK ===

What ever you do, don't let them install the in tank retro pump........stock pump was not available when mine went out......it is a hassle to change the intank pump.

Well i had shoulder surgery and could not get around Dr.s orders so today i was up and about and finally got a chance to crawl under my new to me truck guess what??? i think someone upgraded the pump that was on the motor i do not see any pump near the stock fuel filter and there is a factory fuel hose left there that is not hooked up to anything that is zip tied to the other two fuel lines?? so i guess the pump has been put in the tank cause i see nothing on the motor or the frame i followed the lines all the way back to the tank..so is that good or bad? should i still spend the money on an airdog just to be safe and have cleaner fuel? what would you guys do? thanks for the help on this..
