2004.5 Dodge Ram 3500 - New Member

Hi folks... I see there's lots of info and knowledge on this board. I have been a long time Dodge Truck owner and have finally switched to the "no spark plugs" hauling option.

I have a relatively light (10,000 lbs) fifth wheel and look forward to traveling this year without worrying about keeping consistant cruising speeds and making long up hill grades with ease.

Truck is a 2004.5 and comes with the Auto tranny and 3.73 rear end and RDW - pretty much all stock except for the addition of the Airaid intake tube and Superchips Flashpaq on "tow" flash (additional 110 hp and 230 ft/lbs). Rear end, tranny and engine fluids have all been changed at 44,000 miles. Current mileage is 45,350.

I have heard that I need to upgrade the fuel filter and run a lubricant in the fuel for additional top end lubrication. I appreciate each and everyone's expertise and input so fire away.

Question I have: is there a "lift bushing" for the front spring that will help level off the stance?

Thanks.
J

Welcome to the DTR, J.
With the 04.5, probably the first thing you need to do is check to see if the fuel filter mounted lift pump has been replaced. Just take a peek at the back of the filter, if there is not a black pump on the back of it, you're good.

Reference this picture... there is a pollished aluminum block on the back of the canister, that is where the stock FP goes.

I would at least go with a 2 micron drop in filter in the canister, however, I am a big fan of getting a better pump, such as an Air Dog or a Fass. That's your dime, tho.

The lubrication thing is controversial... I run power service silver about every 3 fill ups, I used to run it every fill up. Some people never run it, and get 200k out of their motors.

Yes, there is a thing called a leveling kit, however, I am not familiar with it... I don't need it. Do a search, use the advanced search and pick the third gen non drive train or performance section to look in, it will give you a better return.

I would highly suggest some gauges, fuel pressure and EGT at a minimum, probably tranny too if you are going to be towing.

Hope this helps. Welcome again.
