No clue on the cam sorry, Seems that you dont hear much of injector issues anymore, but some do exist, and my 600 will get 20 on the highway at 60 mph, averages 16 in city ( 35 mph stop and go) so i dont complain

Love my 04.5. 21k miles and not a year old yet. Zero issues (well, ok door seals). 19+ city and interstate at 70-75 mph.

Look for a thread on a crank sensor mod (may be under cam sensor mod) I gained about 2 mpg and picked up a little low end.

Hey Blown, how long have you been getting that kind of mileage?

I've got 14k miles on mine and get ~19.5 at 60-65 MPH highway and around town I haven't calculated yet but it's obviously less.

At 70 it'd be less than the 19.5.

Do you remember what you were getting at 14k miles? Hand calculated?

I'm wondering if there's any upside left for me. I really haven't worked the truck so it may not be fully broken in at this point.

Thanks.

DT.

I just remembered I have 4:10 gears, which causes the truck to use one more MPG vs. the 373's.

So maybe I'm closer to your MPG than I thought.

I get nearly 21 MPG at 60-65 MPH with 18K. From other posts it seems that the 4.10 gears really hurt mileage.

Well then the 4:10's do actually use one more MPG than the 3.73's because I get nearly 20 at 60-65 with my 4:10's.

That's with 14k miles tho.

"Hey Blown, how long have you been getting that kind of mileage?"

I got around 17 to 17.5 from the day I brought her home (I put the 315s on it as soon as she got home as well). Mileage never got any better with added miles. I kept waiting for better MPG as the miles racked up and it broke-in, but it never got better (yes, I did lots of towing). I always get a bit better in town than on the interstate .
The MPG improvment is all after I did the sensor mod. I did a BHAF at the same time but from what I read on here that really does not help mileage.
I tried to drive slower but just could not do it! Limits here are 75 and most drive 80 so if you drive any slower your a hazard and it just plain ain't no fun gettin passed all day. I would like to see how much better (if at all) it would get at 60.

Thanks for the response Blown.

What's the sensor mod and what's BHAF?

I don't think I've heard of either of them.

Big Honkin Air Filter (BHAF) A large open element air filter to replace the factory air box. Flows and filters well. Also built my own 4" air path from the filter to the turbo = very low restriction. Do a search on BHAF and you will find a lot of info, part numbers, and such. The filter is a VERY tight fit on a 3rd gen. I will try to post a photo in my gallery but many pictures are already in other galleries ( that you will find in your search).

The mod for crank position timing is from a place called “ROKKTECH”, They modify a stock sensor to advance the timing about 2 degrees. Some have modified the tone ring and not used the sensor. Sensor is about $70 and a 5 min install and the tone wheel mod is free and reports say it is very easy to do. There is a very long and very informative thread (search for “Modified camshaft sensor? “ It is over 300 posts! and has been viewed over 22,000 times!!!!

This is a great site!

Please use capital letters and punctuation in your future posts. Makes for difficult reading otherwise. I see 19-20 highway running empty and 70mph. I also see 17-18mpg in 50/50 towing/empty in suburban type driving; usually under 50-55mph!!
